SUPERVISING MENTAL HEALTH PSYCHIATRIST

Position/Program Information Position: Psychiatric Medical Officer – Full‑time (specific designation omitted for brevity). Essential Job Functions Direct patient care with a caseload of more complex clients. Perform administrative responsibilities such as budget preparation for the section, determining equipment and supply needs, personnel responsibilities, developing and revising work procedures, and screening work. Formulate policies and plans and direct the medical work of the section or assist in such activities for a division of a medical department. Examine, diagnose, and prescribe treatment for patients, and review the care prescribed by staff physicians, resident physicians, and interns. Participate as a member of a collaborative professional team in the training program of interns and resident physicians. Evaluate the performance of assigned health care staff and make recommendations for appropriate action. Participate in directed clinical research; direct and coordinate the work of the section with other medical and paramedical services. Confere with consultants regarding patient care and coordinate the work of consulting physicians with the section. Supervise the maintenance of records and the compilation and preparation of reports. Requirements Completion of a residency approved by an American Specialty Board in Psychiatry or equivalent training. One year of experience in medical practice, post‑residency training, teaching, or investigative work. Equivalent training is defined as training formally recognized in writing by the appropriate American Certifying Board as being equivalent. License California State Physician and Surgeon's Certificate authorized by the Board of Medical Examiners of the State of California. A valid California Class C Driver License or alternative transportation when required for essential functions. Physical Class Physical Class II – Light: positions requiring light physical effort, occasional light lifting (≤10 lb) and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved. Special Salary Information 5.5% bonus for assignment in a Sheriff’s County Jail mental health facility. 5.5% bonus for AMA Board Certification in Psychiatry. 5.5% bonus for continuous assignment at LAC High Desert Health Systems (Palmdale/Lancaster). Desirable Qualifications Clinical and administrative supervisory experience. Experience treating a broad range of patient populations in diverse treatment settings. Experience in academic teaching and training. Experience in the development and implementation of mental health programs. Sub‑specialty psychiatric training and certification in child & adolescent, geriatric, or addictions. Board certification in general psychiatry issued by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Examination Content This examination will evaluate experience and desirable qualifications based on application information, weighted 100%. Applicants must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher to be placed on the eligible list.
