The Warehouse Manager will handle various management, organization and planning tasks to maintain high performance of the warehouse’s storage and shipment processes. Their duties and responsibilities often include:
- Must be bilingual in English and Spanish
- Audit and report inventory while making recommendations on which items to order and restock
- Manage warehouse associates, monitoring work and ensuring the safe use of warehouse equipment
- Establish warehouse practices and protocols to achieve an efficient warehouse
- Set warehouse and team goals in collaboration with executive management and other team leads
- Monitor workplace performance and lead training initiatives to improve employees
- Keep up-to-date on the latest federal and state safety regulations
- Communicate with other departments to ensure products are shipped in a timely manner
Qualifications:
Warehouse managers typically require a high school diploma alongside 3 to 5 years of warehouse experience and 1 to 2 years in a supervisory role. Successful candidates possess strong leadership, proficiency in Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), and knowledge of inventory control and safety regulations like OSHA. [1, 2]
Education & Experience
- Minimum Education: A high school diploma or GED is the absolute minimum, but an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or Business Administration is strongly preferred.
- Experience: 3+ years of working in warehouse distribution or logistics, with at least 1–2 years in a direct supervisory or management role overseeing a team. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Technical & Operational Skills
- Warehouse Management Systems (WMS): High-level understanding of digital inventory software such as SAP, Oracle, Blue Yonder, or Manhattan.
- Inventory Control: Mastery of first-in, first-out (FIFO) or last-in, first-out (LIFO) processes, cycle counting, and shrinkage reduction.
- Safety & Compliance: A working knowledge of safety standards (like OSHA) and specific regulatory requirements (e.g., HACCP or FDA compliance if handling food or medical supplies).
- Equipment Proficiency: Ability to operate—and train others on—material handling equipment like forklifts and pallet jacks. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Leadership & Soft Skills
- Team Development: The ability to interview, hire, schedule, train, and mentor hourly or union employees.
- Data Analysis: Capacity to track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), interpret operational reports, and manage a labor/supply budget.
- Problem-Solving: Strong agility to quickly troubleshoot supply chain bottlenecks, mis-picks, and staffing shortages. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
