Senior National Commercial Title Underwriting Attorney Position Description

New York, NY / Hybrid (3 days / week in office)

Our client, a leading organization in the title insurance and real estate services space, is seeking a Senior National Commercial Title Underwriting Counsel to join its team . This role offers the opportunity to work on complex commercial real estate transactions, providing underwriting guidance, risk assessment, and strategic support to internal stakeholders and clients across the country.

What You’ll Do

• Provide underwriting support, counsel, and authorization to company personnel, agents, and customers, related to the issuance of real estate title insurance commitments and policies.
• Apply underwriting standards to assess risk and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
• Provide guidance to internal teams on real estate settlement services and transaction structure.
• Develop and communicate underwriting guidelines and best practices in alignment with organizational standards.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support efficient and successful transaction execution.
• Other duties as assigned.

What You Bring

• JD from an ABA-accredited law school required.
• Active Bar Admission in New York , in good standing.
• 5+ years of substantive experience in national title insurance underwriting or comparable commercial real estate experience in a law firm setting.
• General understanding of the process of underwriting real estate transactions for the issuance of title insurance policies .
• Ability to interpret and apply underwriting standards and guidelines within delegated authority limits
• Solid understanding of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of real estate transactions, title and settlement processes.
• Must be familiar with applicable real estate law , including federal and state regulations.
• Strong relationship-building skills with internal stakeholders and externally, with clients and others.
• Exceptional organizational skills , with the ability to manage significant transaction volume, ability to multi-task, prioritize, and follow up in a timely manner.
• Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Effective communicator with strong negotiation skills, who can deliver guidance with clarity, professionalism, tact, and diplomacy.
• Strong analytical skills, detail oriented, with the ability to assess risk and provide practical solutions.
• Collaborative mindset with ability to act decisively when needed.
• Creative, solution-oriented approach to resolving complex title challenges.

Compensation & Benefits

· Base Salary: $200,000 - $350,000; Year End Bonus; Comprehensive Benefits Package
