Emergency Department Registered NurseThe Nurse Emergency Department (ED) Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based care to assigned patients. They delegate and supervise basic nursing care of licensed practical nurses and unlicensed assistive personnel. The nurse will assist in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization. The major duties and responsibilities of a Emergency Department Registered Nurse includes but are not limited to:Provides urgent and emergent care to patients with acute and/or chronic medical, surgical, and psychiatric conditions.Integrates knowledge, skills, abilities, and judgment and is self-directed in goal setting for managing complex situations.Validates understanding of the rationale for care processes and decisions.Demonstrates expanded knowledge base of the nursing process in the care of assigned patients.Questions clinical practices for the purpose of providing evidence-based care.Demonstrates the ability to cope with and manage competing priorities.Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines.Influences outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team.Manages the care of patients, while organizing and prioritizing patient care needs, and ensuring assigned tasks are completed.Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to ensure the plan of care is achieved.Functions as an emerging leader in providing direction to staff to identify, implement and evaluate patient care needs.Provides and directs others in Veteran/patient driven care that optimizes the patient's experience, satisfaction, and/or safety for a team of patients.Maintains professional boundaries to protect patient vulnerabilities and act in the best interest of the patient.
