Job Summary

We are seeking a dependable Yard Jockey to manage the movement of trailers and trucks within a warehouse, distribution center, or freight yard. This role ensures smooth yard operations by positioning trailers for loading/unloading, inspecting equipment for safety, and supporting logistics staff. The position also involves operating forklifts and yard trucks to move materials efficiently in an outdoor environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Move trailers and trucks around the yard to designated loading and unloading areas.
2. Operate yard trucks, tractors, and forklifts to transport materials and deliveries.
3. Position trailers accurately for warehouse and dock operations.
4. Inspect equipment and trailers to ensure compliance with safety protocols.
5. Assist with minor maintenance tasks as needed.
6. Communicate effectively with warehouse and logistics staff to coordinate yard activities.
7. Load and unload materials into storage areas, machines, railroad cars, or trucks.
8. Maintain a safe and organized yard environment.

Required Qualifications

1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
2. 1–3 years of experience in yard operations, trucking, or warehouse logistics.
3. Strong driving skills and ability to operate industrial forklifts or trucks.
4. Attention to safety protocols and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
5. Physical ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience in distribution centers or freight yards.
• Knowledge of warehouse logistics systems.

Certifications

• Forklift or lift truck certification (preferred or obtainable after hire).

Education: High School or equivalent
