Area Health Information Specialist II

Overview Area Health Information Specialist II: responsible for processing all release of information (ROI) requests for medical records in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring the highest quality product and customer service. Safeguard patient privacy by ensuring releases are limited to authorized individuals and compliant with request, authorization, company policy, and HIPAA regulations. This role involves travel 75% or more of the time. This is an intermediate level position with at least 1 year of related HIM experience. In addition to HIS I foundations, HIS II is responsible for training HIS I staff and providing reports to the manager and/or facility. Responsibilities Receive and process requests for patient health information in accordance with Company and Facility policies and procedures. Maintain confidentiality and security with all privileged information. Maintain working knowledge of Company and facility software. Adhere to the Company's and Customer facilities Code of Conduct and policies. Inform manager of work, site difficulties, and/or fluctuating volumes. Assist with additional work duties or responsibilities as evident or required. Consistent application of medical privacy regulations to guard against unauthorized disclosure. Responsible for managing patient health records and safeguarding patient records to ensure HIPAA compliance. Prepare new patient charts, gather documents and information from paper sources and/or electronic health records. Ensure medical records are assembled in standard order, accurate and complete; create digital images for storage in the EMR. Respond to requests for patient records from within the facility and external sources, retrieving and transmitting them appropriately. Answer inbound/outbound calls and assist with patient walk-ins as needed. Assist with administrative duties such as handling faxes, opening mail, and data entry; schedule pickups as required. Assist with training associates in the HIS I position and generate reports for managers or facilities as directed. Exceed level 1 productivity expectations as outlined at the site and participate in project teams to advance operational strategies. Act in a lead role with staff regarding general questions and assist with new hire and developmental training. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Must be 18 years of age or older. Able to travel locally/regionally 75% or more; able to commute between locations as needed. Able to work overtime during peak seasons when required. 1 year of Health Information related experience. Meets and/or exceeds Company productivity standards. Basic computer proficiency; comfortable using phones, fax, printers, and other general office equipment. Professional verbal and written communication skills in English. Detail- and quality-oriented with accurate and compliant medical records. Strong data entry skills; ability to organize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Ability to respond to changing priorities with minimum supervision. Willingness to train and mentor others as needed. Bonus points Previous production/metrics-based work experience. In-person customer service experience and ability to build relationships with on-site clients. openness to process improvement ideas and feedback for internal stakeholders.
