Lead Child and Youth Program Assistant CY-02.

Responsibilities Serves as a team leader to ensure program staff provides appropriate developmental care and instruction for children and youth aged 6 weeks to 18 years in Child and Youth Services (CYS) programs. Ensures implementation of a developmentally appropriate program that promotes the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth of children and youth in the ages served. Instructs team members in specific tasks and job techniques; makes available written instructions, reference materials, and supplies. Develops, plans, and implements age‑appropriate educational lesson plans, schedules, and activities based on observed needs and interests of individual children and youth. Ensures staff follow health and safety standards when performing diapering, toileting, hand washing, cleaning/sanitizing/disinfecting surfaces and materials, food service, safe sleep practices, and caring for ill children and youth. Conditions of Employment Direct Deposit and Social Security Card required. Must be at least 18 years of age at time of appointment and meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position. A one‑year probationary period may be required. Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E‑Verify) check. Position has regular contact with children under 18 in accordance with applicable law and DoD instruction. Favorably adjudicated background checks required. Position is subject to immunization requirements as a condition of employment for working with children and youth. Must obtain appropriate immunization against communicable diseases, including influenza vaccine. Must pass a pre‑employment physical and provide evidence of immunization; must be free from communicable disease. For positions in Child Development Centers, possess and maintain physical ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs., walk, bend, stoop, and stand routinely. Incumbent must have visual and auditory capabilities to supervise children and youth and respond immediately when needed. Must complete all DoW and Service training requirements within the specified time, maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications. Work may involve both indoor and outdoor settings, including occasional field trips. May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays to accommodate program operating schedules. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent is required. Must be at least 18 years of age and possess English communication skills, both oral and written. Minimum of 12 months experience working in group programs with children/youth and demonstrated knowledge of child/youth development principles. Preferred: 18 months experience with completion of DoW standardized training course, Child Development Associate (CDA), or Military School‑Age (MSA) credential; or an associate’s degree or 60 semester hours in early childhood, elementary, or secondary education, child and youth development, special education, or a related field. Proof of education is required at the time of application. Education must be directly related to the position. If qualifying through DoW approved competency training courses, supply one of the following: foundation IDP signed by employee and supervisor, signed foundation (or equivalent) certificate, or memorandum of completion from a supervisor or CYS training specialist.
