Ship Assistant Superintendent The Ship Assistant Superintendent at Holland America Line and Seabourn is responsible for supporting technical operations and maintenance activities for assigned vessels under the guidance of Fleet Directors or superintendents. This role involves assisting with planned maintenance tracking, documentation, and compliance tasks, as well as supporting dry‑dock and wet‑dock planning and execution. The Assistant Superintendent works closely with shipboard engineering teams, Fleet Technical Operations, and supply chain partners to ensure timely coordination of technical requirements and accurate reporting. They contribute to certification tracking, audit preparation, and project documentation while promoting adherence to safety and environmental standards. The position also includes monitoring requisitions, assisting with cost tracking, and maintaining communication between shoreside and onboard teams. The ideal candidate will have a valid maritime engineering license, 2–3 years’ experience, familiarity with AMOS systems or similar, and strong organizational and communication skills. Responsibilities The Associate Superintendent supports vessel technical maintenance by monitoring planned activities in AMOS, preparing requisitions for spares and services, maintaining up‑to‑date certifications and technical records, and assisting with ship visits and long‑term technical planning. Dry‑Dock and Wet‑Dock Support: The Associate Superintendent assists in dry‑dock and wet‑dock planning and execution, coordinates specifications and documentation for technical projects, and maintains accurate records of all docking activities. Budget and Cost Tracking: The Associate Superintendent monitors technical expenses, tracks spending against approved budgets, prepares cost summaries, and collaborates with supply chain and finance teams to verify invoices and compliance with purchasing procedures. Compliance and Certification: The Associate Superintendent prepares for audits and inspections, reviews non‑conformances, supports corrective action plans, liaises with classification societies, and monitors adherence to Global HESS and SMS standards. Communication and Collaboration: The Associate Superintendent acts as a key liaison between shipboard teams and shoreside departments, participates in meetings, provides status reports, and collaborates with electrical and hotel teams to address technical needs promptly. Knowledge & Skills Operational Environment: Works within Fleet Technical Operations supporting Holland America Line and Seabourn brands, coordinating technical requirements between shipboard and shoreside departments. Problem Solving: Interprets maintenance data from AMOS, supports corrective actions for non‑conformance, assists in dry‑dock planning, and resolves procurement delays. Impact: Supports vessel reliability, safety, and compliance through accurate documentation and timely coordination of maintenance and certification activities. Leadership: Demonstrates leadership through collaboration and accountability, coordinating cross‑functional teams and representing the organization’s standards to vendors and regulatory authorities. Requirements Valid maritime engineering license, marine engineering technology certification, or equivalent. Competency in using AMOS or similar planned maintenance systems. Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications. Basic understanding of Class Society and Flag State regulations. Ability to travel internationally and work in both shoreside and shipboard environments. 2–3 years’ experience in technical operations in the maritime industry. Experience assisting with maintenance planning, documentation, dry‑dock or wet‑dock activities, and interpreting technical data. Experience collaborating with cross‑functional teams including engineering, supply chain, and compliance departments. Travel Less than 25% with shipboard travel likely. Work Conditions Work primarily in a climate‑controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential. Physical Demands Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.
