About The Team The Regulatory & Compliance team at Airwallex is a global, collaborative function responsible for helping the company grow safely and sustainably. We provide trusted guidance across the business, strengthen our regulatory framework, and promote a culture of compliance, sound risk management, and ethical conduct. The Financial Crime Compliance (FCC) team is a strategically important second-line function operating under a clear three lines of defense model, with responsibility for Airwallex’s global anti-money laundering and counter‑terrorist financing (AML/CTF) and sanctions frameworks. As Airwallex expands into new markets and deepens its engagement with regulators and financial institution partners, the team helps manage complex financial crime risks across a growing global business. What You’ll Do This role offers an opportunity to join a high-impact team working to help Airwallex manage global money laundering and terrorist financing risks. You will translate regulatory expectations and financial crime risks into practical, risk-based policies, controls, and guidance that support safe and sustainable growth. You will work closely with Product, Commercial, Operations, Risk, Engineering, and regional compliance teams across a global payments business. This role is based in New York. Responsibilities Support the development, implementation and ongoing maintenance of Airwallex’s Global AML/CTF Policy Framework, including articulation of global minimum standards,across the first and second lines of defense, partnering with regional teams on appropriate regional and local adaptations. Develop, implement, and advise on risk-based AML/CTF processes and controls covering customer due diligence, enhanced due diligence, beneficial ownership, ongoing monitoring, transaction monitoring, suspicious activity escalation, and higher-risk customer management. Monitor global AML/CTF regulatory developments, enforcement trends, and industry practices, assess their impact on Airwallex, and support updates to policies, procedures, controls, and implementation plans. Advisory support for the review and investigation of escalated customers, accounts, and transactions involving potential money laundering, terrorist financing, or other financial crime concerns to provide interpretative guidance of policy requirements. Partner with the Risk Assessment, Product, Data, Engineering, Operations, and Compliance Technology teams to identify emerging risks, evaluate control effectiveness, and translate AML/CTF requirements into effective onboarding, monitoring, screening, payment, and case-management workflows. Support regulatory examinations, partner bank inquiries, and audits; prepare governance materials, metrics, risk indicators, and training; and contribute to due diligence, remediation, and continuous improvement projects that strengthen the global AML/CTF program. Maintain central program registers and governance of action items in response to self-identified issues, internal and external assurance results, and regulatory findings ensuring global program read across for visibility and analysis of root causes and remediation plans. Who You Are We’re looking for people who meet the minimum requirements for this role. The preferred qualifications are great to have, but are not mandatory. Minimum Qualifications 7+ years of experience in AML/CTF, financial crime compliance, or a related risk or regulatory function within financial services, fintech, payments, banking, or a similarly complex regulated environment. Demonstrated understanding of AML/CTF laws, regulations, enforcement trends, and industry practices across multiple jurisdictions. Experience supporting or managing AML program components such as customer risk assessment, customer due diligence, enhanced due diligence, transaction monitoring, suspicious activity investigations, or sanctions-related financial crime controls. Experience working with customer onboarding, transaction monitoring, screening, case-management, or other compliance technology, including alert review, case disposition, or control enhancement processes. Ability to assess complex customer profiles, commercial transactions, products, and cross-border payment flows and identify practical, risk-based recommendations. Strong written communication, analytical, project management, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work independently and collaborate across a global program. Preferred Qualifications CAMS or an equivalent globally recognized AML or financial crime compliance credential. Experience interacting with regulators, auditors, correspondent banks, financial institution partners, or other external stakeholders on AML/CTF matters. Experience in fintech and payments, including cross-border payments, virtual accounts, multi-currency wallets, or multi-entity regulated groups. Experience partnering with Product, Data, Engineering, or Operations teams to embed AML/CTF requirements into automated workflows, dashboards, or other technology-enabled compliance tools.
