Director, Veterinary Services

Altasciences seeks a Director of Veterinary Services to oversee animal health care and regulatory compliance at its research facility in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The role involves managing veterinary programs, supervising clinical and surgical procedures, ensuring regulatory adherence, and supporting GLP-compliant research operations.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and ensure compliance with USDA, AAALAC, and AWA regulatory requirements for animal care
• Supervise surgical procedures, anesthesia, recovery, and maintenance of surgical facilities and equipment
• Conduct clinical examinations, diagnose and treat diseases, perform medical and surgical procedures
• Lead herd health surveillance programs including laboratory testing and necropsy procedures
• Serve on Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee and advise on experimental design and animal welfare

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.) from accredited institution or AVMA ECFVG certificate
• Minimum 6 years clinical practice with laboratory or research animal species
• 3+ years experience in management or supervisory roles
• Valid state veterinary license and required accreditation
• Advanced knowledge of Animal Welfare Act and Guide for Care and Use of Laboratory Animals
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
