Teacher Rep 6-8 (Math) – Sylvan Hills Middle School Job ID: 4615 Job Overview Atlanta Public Schools is seeking a self‑motivated teacher to provide face‑to‑face instruction in Mathematics. The successful candidate will support student success through differentiated instruction, adapt to changing needs, and create a climate that promotes respect, tolerance and peaceful problem solving. Key Responsibilities Provide face‑to‑face instruction to students in the school building. Teach simultaneously to in‑person and remote learners if required. Respond to changing instructional needs of the school and district. Deliver instruction through lectures, discussions, visual aids and other effective methods to promote comprehension. Prepare lesson plans and outlines that cover the curriculum. Administer assessments to monitor student comprehension. Maintain classroom order and discipline during class, lunch and throughout the school. Perform administrative duties: attendance, classroom organization, grading records. Coordinate parent/teacher conferences to review student performance, behavior and other issues. Attend faculty meetings and training sessions. Qualifications Minimum of a T4 Certification in Secondary Mathematics 6‑8 or 6‑12, or a GACE pass in Secondary Mathematics 6‑8 or 6‑12. Zero years of teaching experience. Compensation Salary Grade: T4 (Bachelor) – T7 (Doctorate) Salary Schedule: Atlanta Public Schools salary schedules. Work Year: 202 days. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Communication. Instructional strategies that connect curriculum to the learner. Student management. Ability to work well with students, staff, and parents professionally. Flexibility to adapt between in‑person learning environments. Knowledge of school safety and security procedures. Excellent writing and communication skills. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Essential Duties Instruct students through lectures, discussions and visual aids. Prepare lessons and outlines covering the material. Plan and conduct activities for balanced instruction, demonstration, and work time. Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments. Administer state and local testing processes and policies. Use computers and audiovisual aids to supplement presentations. Assist students needing extra help, tutoring, counseling for adjustment or academic problems. Maintain classroom cleanliness; wipe down surfaces for sanitation. Observe and evaluate student performance, behavior, social development and health. Communicate with parents, administrators, and staff via email and phone promptly. Collaborate with teachers and administrators to refine programs following curricula. Coordinate in‑person conferences with parents and guardians. Attend faculty meetings, teacher training workshops, and educational conferences. Maintain accurate student records as required by law and district policy. Assist with student transitions between locations and volunteer training. Maintain regular attendance in‑person during business hours and as needed. Perform other duties as assigned by administrators. Physical Abilities and Working Conditions Vision: Read small print, view computer screen for prolonged periods. Hearing: Tolerate noisy conditions. Speech: Be understood face‑to‑face and over phone or computer. Upper Body Mobility: Use hands to grasp small objects; manipulate fingers; lift and move objects up to 5 lb. Strength: Carry objects up to 5 lb frequently; may need to restrain parties in conflict. Environmental Requirements: Manage interruptions, cooperate, work independently, indoors. Mental Requirements: Read, write, interpret, apply information at moderately complex level; high school math proficiency; judgment, quick processing; manage stress.
