Description:
This position involves working on a Medical Surgical unit specializing in Infectious Diseases.
The unit has 18 beds, all private rooms due to Infectious Diseases.
Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:5-6, with adjustments to 1:4 for COVID patients.
The unit is staffed with 3-4 RNs per shift.
BLS is the only required certification for this role.
Common diagnoses include various Infectious Diseases, Isolation protocols, COVID, MRSA, and C-Diff.
RNs are not required to titrate cardiac drips but should have knowledge of common MedSurg IV medications.
There is a Charge Nurse available 24/7, with day charge nurses possibly taking patients if needed.
Night charge nurses will always take a full patient assignment.
There are 2 CNA's scheduled per shift.
No ventilators are available, but patients may be on CPAP, BiPAP, or high-flow systems managed by Respiratory Therapy.
Telemetry is monitored remotely; RNs do not interpret strips.
Shift hours are from 1900-0730, with a 30-minute lunch break.
Self-scheduling is available for permanent staff, while travelers will be scheduled based on unit needs.
Travelers will schedule every other weekend, with specific weekend shifts outlined.
Holiday scheduling will depend on unit needs, and travelers may be expected to work holidays if necessary.
Travelers may be required to float to other Medical Surgical units.
Scrub colors are royal blue, with specific dress code requirements in place.
Unit specific orientation consists of 1 day of EPIC training and 1 day on the floor with a preceptor.
After orientation, travelers will begin independent patient care.
