A Minnesota Second Class C Boiler Engineer’s License is preferred at the time of hire. Employees hired with a Special Engineer Boiler License must obtain a Second-Class C Boiler Engineer’s License within eighteen (18) months of employment. Position Summary The Facilities Technician is responsible for performing maintenance, repair, and cleaning duties for County facilities to help ensure reliable operation of buildings, grounds, and equipment. Responsibilities may include operating boilers; painting; performing minor plumbing, electrical, and mechanical repairs; working with computerized Building Automation Systems for HVAC; maintaining and repairing furniture and equipment; performing grounds maintenance and snow removal; and completing other general facility maintenance duties. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Performs routine inspections of Building Automation Systems, heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, plumbing, and electrical systems throughout County facilities. Reviews and prioritizes assigned work orders and maintenance requests. Maintains County grounds, including mowing lawns using push and riding lawnmowers. Performs snow and ice removal and operates snow removal equipment, including snow blowers, snow brushes, and UTV equipment. Monitors and maintains materials, equipment, inventory, and facility supplies. Performs minor construction, building repair, and equipment maintenance activities. Changes filters and performs routine maintenance on HVAC equipment. Performs minor plumbing, electrical, and mechanical repairs within the scope of the position. Maintains records related to facility operations, maintenance activities, service requests, inspections, and completed work. Performs maintenance and repair activities within the County Jail and other County facilities. Assists with maintaining furniture, fixtures, equipment, and other building components. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned. Level of Responsibility and Decision-Making The Facilities Technician is generally responsible for achieving clearly defined objectives while applying established operating policies, procedures, and safety standards. The position applies basic technical and maintenance skills and may develop more advanced skills using established methods, equipment, and techniques. Work is generally routine, with instructions, procedures, and expectations clearly established. Direction Received and Provided Work is performed under general direction, with established procedures and standards applied to specific situations. The Facilities Technician must be able to organize and prioritize assigned work to effectively respond to facility needs. The position may occasionally provide direction or guidance to others regarding work methods, procedures, or assigned tasks. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Successful candidates should possess knowledge of and/or the ability to perform the following: Maintenance and repair procedures and methods related to facilities operations. Safe work practices and proper use of tools and equipment. Building maintenance practices and principles. Operation of boilers, mechanical systems, HVAC systems, and pneumatic systems. Basic electrical, plumbing, and mechanical repairs. Basic construction and trades-related maintenance activities. Troubleshooting building systems and equipment. Proper use of tools and equipment related to facilities maintenance. Following written and verbal instructions. Preparing and maintaining accurate maintenance and service records. Managing and prioritizing multiple work assignments and service requests. Communicating effectively and professionally with coworkers, supervisors, County employees, contractors, and members of the public. Work is performed throughout County buildings and grounds. The position requires occasional to frequent lifting, pushing, and pulling of up to 40 pounds. On rare occasions, lifting of up to 100 pounds may be required with or without assistance. Employees must be able to work in confined and elevated spaces. The position may involve exposure to cleaning chemicals, seasonal temperature extremes, bodily fluids, infectious diseases, and hazardous materials or waste.
