Speech-Language Pathologist
Primary Purpose: Assess, diagnose, and provide speech-language therapy services to students with communication disorders that adversely affect educational performance. Collaborate with staff and families to support students in accessing the general education curriculum in compliance with IDEA and state guidelines.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program
- Valid state licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist
- Valid state educator certification (if required by state)
- Experience in a public school setting preferred
- Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and state special education regulations
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Assessment & Evaluation: Conduct comprehensive speech-language evaluations using formal and informal assessment tools. Interpret evaluation results and prepare written reports. Determine eligibility for speech-language services in accordance with IDEA criteria. Participate in ARD/IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team evaluations.
- IEP Development & Compliance: Develop measurable annual goals aligned with student needs. Provide input for Present Levels of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance (PLAAFP). Maintain compliance with timelines and documentation requirements. Monitor student progress and update IEPs as required.
- Direct & Indirect Services: Provide direct therapy services individually and in groups. Deliver services in a variety of settings (classroom, therapy room, virtual if applicable). Consult with teachers regarding classroom accommodations and strategies. Provide support for AAC systems and assistive technology as appropriate.
- Collaboration & Communication: Collaborate with general education teachers, special education staff, administrators, and related service providers. Maintain ongoing communication with parents regarding student progress. Participate in campus RTI/MTSS processes as needed.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate service logs and therapy notes. Complete Medicaid billing documentation (if applicable). Ensure confidentiality of student records in compliance with FERPA and HIPAA regulations. Maintain required caseload documentation and compliance records.
- Professional Responsibilities: Attend required professional development. Maintain licensure and certification requirements. Adhere to district policies and professional ethical standards (ASHA Code of Ethics).
- Supervisory Responsibilities: May supervise Speech-Language Pathology Assistants (SLPAs) or graduate interns as assigned.
Working Conditions:
- Regular exposure to students with varied disabilities and communication needs
- Occasional lifting of therapy materials and adaptive equipment
- May travel between campuses within the district
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of speech and language development
- Ability to interpret data and develop appropriate intervention plans
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to manage a caseload and meet compliance deadlines
- Strong collaboration and problem-solving skills
*Minimum Salary $66,000 for fully certified *Salary is commensurate with experience *Works 195 Day Calendar * Please note that this role requires in-person attendance and is not eligible for remote work.
