Warehouse Material Handler

Sorrento Valley - 1st shift 8AM-4:30PM - $25-$28/hr

The Material Handler supports a growing warehouse operation by receiving raw materials, accurately documenting and organizing inventory, and ensuring materials move efficiently through the stock room and into quality inspection. This role plays a key part in building and improving warehouse processes, performing cycle counts, and assisting with picking and packing commercial products while collaborating closely with quality and other internal partners.

Responsibilities

  • Receive raw materials and ensure all incoming shipments are accurately documented and logged.
  • Place received materials correctly in the stock room and organize inventory within designated bins and locations.
  • Perform inventory control tasks, including regular cycle counts, with the expectation that the frequency and volume of cycle counts will increase over time.
  • Move inventory to the proper locations and adjust bin assignments as needed to maintain an orderly and efficient stock room.
  • Support picking and packing activities for commercial products as required.
  • Work closely with quality personnel to move materials to incoming inspection in a timely manner.
  • Verify that documentation accompanying incoming materials is complete, accurate, and free of discrepancies, and flag any issues for resolution.
  • Use ERP systems to record inventory transactions, track materials, and support warehouse best practices.
  • Communicate effectively with internal partners using tools such as Microsoft Teams and Outlook to coordinate material movements and resolve inventory questions.
  • Perform data entry related to inventory control, shipping and receiving, and material tracking with a high level of accuracy.
  • Apply warehouse best practices and contribute recommendations to improve processes, organization, and efficiency.
  • Drive to a local FedEx location when needed to support shipping and receiving activities.
  • Handle flammable materials and items stored in large freezers in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Transfer materials into a cleanroom environment when required, including properly gowning up to enter the cleanroom.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience with inventory control tasks, including performing cycle counts.
  • Practical experience in shipping and receiving within a warehouse or stock room environment.
  • Ability to work with and navigate an ERP system to manage and track inventory.
  • Strong understanding of warehouse best practices and material handling procedures.
  • Proficiency in data entry with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience with picking and packing processes for commercial products.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate using Microsoft Teams and Outlook.
  • Ability to safely handle flammable materials and items stored in freezers according to safety guidelines.
  • Capability to follow documentation requirements and verify that incoming material records are complete and correct.
  • Willingness and ability to travel locally to FedEx as part of shipping and receiving duties.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Preferred experience working in environments that follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Background in medical device or pharmaceutical warehousing or manufacturing is highly desirable.
  • Comfort in making recommendations to improve warehouse processes, organization, and efficiency.
  • Interest in helping grow a small warehouse operation into a larger, more complex environment over the next few years.
  • Potential to develop into a supervisory or leadership role as the warehouse team expands.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with quality and operations teams in a regulated environment.
  • Strong sense of ownership and initiative in building and refining warehouse practices.

Work Environment

The current warehouse environment is compact, with a stock room that consists of a single aisle, offering a close-knit and focused workspace. The standard schedule is Monday to Friday, beginning at 8:00 a.m., with the expectation of flexibility to work overtime as operational needs increase over time. The role involves handling some materials that are flammable in nature and working with refrigerator-sized freezers, following established safety procedures. At times, you may need to transfer materials into a cleanroom and enter that environment, which requires proper gowning and adherence to cleanroom protocols. Overall, the setting is a smaller, evolving warehouse operation where safety, organization, and attention to detail are central to daily work.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA 92121.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
