Paralegal/Legal Assistant 1 – Criminal Justice Section, Capital Crimes Unit Location: Columbus, Ohio (Hybrid in-person/remote; headquarters at 30 E. Broad St., Columbus, Ohio) Compensation $25.72 – $31.31 per hour Schedule Full-time, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Responsibilities Research federal and state statutes, recorded judicial decisions, and other legal sources and reference materials to prepare responses to inquiries, complaints, claims, and legal/administrative procedural issues for section attorneys. Perform internet and other computer‑assisted searches for information and documents. Assist in the preparation and presentation of cases in litigation, including document review, verification, and organization. Help prepare and respond to discovery requests and public records requests, and contact opposing counsel or court/board personnel as necessary. Assess, log, and index incoming and outgoing electronic and paper document productions. Use document management software to prepare legal correspondence; use case management software. Draft legal briefs and memoranda, contracts, pleadings, motions, affidavits, legislation, rules, and/or regulations. Prepare case summaries, legal documents, and reports for review, approval, and signature by section attorneys. Maintain case calendars and case files. Manually and/or electronically file legal documents with court on behalf of attorneys. Respond to general inquiries. Process and track payments and wire transfers. Track judgments, consent orders, and related information for reporting purposes. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications 24 months paid work experience as a paralegal/legal assistant, or Completion of a certificated paralegal or legal assistant program, or 12 months of education from an accredited law school, or Equivalency to the minimum class qualifications listed above. Administrative support/services skills; attention to detail; strong verbal and written communication.
