Job Summary

This position reports to the Superintendent of the Grounds Shop. This position is responsible for landscaping and maintenance of the grounds property using hand or power tools or equipment. Workers typically perform a variety of tasks, which may include but not limited to any combination of the following: operating grounds and landscaping tools and equipment, mowing, trimming, mechanical and cultural weed removal and weed control, trash removal, pressure-washing, planting, tree care, and fertilizing.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

• Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
• Two (2) years of experience in grounds maintenance and landscaping
• Knowledge of maintenance and safe operation of landscaping and power-driven tools/equipment (ex: mower, blower, edger, trimmer, shears, etc.)
• Knowledge of tree, plant and weed identification.
• Ability to clearly communicate maintenance needs, safety concerns, and progress updates on assigned work to supervisors.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience maintaining grounds in a large commercial environment desirable
• Knowledge of seasonal plant care, disease and environmental conditions affecting plant health.
• Knowledge of workplace safety standards and procedures, including OSHA guidelines.

Department Overview

The Plant Operations & Maintenance (PO&M) Department is a 24-hour, seven day a week operation responsible for the operation, repair and maintenance of buildings, systems, and grounds at the UC Davis Health that includes 148 acres and structures that total 4 million GMSF. Plant Operations & Maintenance is one of the largest operations and maintenance support providers to clinical, administrative, research, SOM and SON departments throughout the Health System. UC Davis Health is one of several UC campuses that have their own cogeneration, central power plants. Cogeneration (Combined Heat and Power or CHP) is the simultaneous production of electricity and heat, both of which are used throughout the Medical Center Campus and is supported by Plant Operations & Maintenance 24x7x365.
