Garden Center Associate (2026)

DESCRIPTION

Piala's Nursery & Garden Shop, Inc. is currently seeking Garden Center Associates for the 2026 season for our retail nursery. These seasonal positions run the duration of our operating season, which is typically from mid-April through mid-December (when the weather turns inclement). We have full and part-time positions available. Overtime is available, but not required. Scheduled work hours include Sunday and Monday from April through October.

Training for this position will begin in January/February of 2026, to ensure appropriate training prior to the start of the 2026 season.

The qualified individual will have excellent communication skills, a positive attitude, and be able to maintain a professional appearance. Must be able to regularly lift 40lbs. Horticulture experience or education is a huge plus, but not a requirement.

Responsibilities:

• Assist customers with plant selections, care and identification
• Tend to all aspects of plant care, including weeding, watering and maintaining the health, quality and appearance of plants and sales lot
• Assist with loading, tagging, and stocking merchandise
• Assemble sales floor designs
• Assist Nursery Manager and Nursery Foreman with daily nursery operations as directed

REQUIREMENTS

• Must be at least 18 years old
• Excellent communication skills
• A positive attitude
• Self-directed quick learner and problem solver
• Physical condition that allows you to meet the demands of daily tasks, including ability to lift up to 40lbs
• Ability to maintain a professional appearance
• 2 years of horticulture experience or knowledge (Preferred, but not required)
• Skid Loader experience or willingness to learn (preferred, but not required)
• Availability to work Sunday and Monday
