Job Title: RN - Intensive Care Unit Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: ICU (Intensive Care Unit) Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12 Hours Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Active State License Required Certifications: BLS and ACLS Required Must-Have: Ability to interpret EKG strips. Proficient in care of the ventilated patient. Advanced knowledge in titrating vasopressors. Description: The unit consists of 20 beds. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 RN to 2 patients. The common diagnoses in the unit include Sepsis, ARDS, Pneumonia, AKI, Alcohol Withdrawal, and Overdose. It is currently the designated unit for COVID care. RNs are required to titrate various vasoactive and cardioactive medications. Charge RNs are available as staffing allows. There is a house supervisor on duty 24/7. Patient care technicians are available with a ratio of 1 PCT to 10 patients. Intensivists are on-site approximately from 0700 to 1900, and telemedicine support is available thereafter. RNs are required to troubleshoot RT equipment and monitor patient status. Telemetry is monitored by a tech, but RNs must read and interpret their own EKG strips. Shifts run from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM. There is a requirement for working every other weekend. Holiday requirements depend on staffing needs at the time. Travelers may be required to float to lower-level care units, with adjusted patient ratios. Scrubs are not provided, and there is no specific color requirement for attire. The orientation includes training on charting systems and hands-on learning with preceptors.
