This position implements and evaluates various administrative systems to support the department operations, coordinates faculty personnel processes, supports procurement and budget reporting, provides work direction to student assistants, assists the department chair in ensuring campus policies and procedures are followed, supports faculty with administrative processes including travel, and coordinates department events. Administrative support staff within the College of Engineering primarily support their individual home department, while working as part of a broader team of administrative staff and in collaboration with their peers in other departments and the dean’s office. The administrative team shares ideas and innovations with respect to administrative functions, coordinates and implements uniform processes and procedures, and supports each other to ensure the success of the college. The Department Chair holds a full-time academic year appointed position and serves a three-year renewable term. In collaboration with other department support staff the individual filling this position provides continuity of administrative operations with respect to department, college, and university policies during the chair transition. Department Summary This position supports the Computer Science and Software Engineering (CSSE) Department at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. The CSSE Department is a major academic unit offering undergraduate and graduate degrees. CSSE strives to provide high quality computing education and excellent career preparation for students. Key Qualifications Demonstrated customer service experience requiring a very high level of diplomacy and professionalism. Ability to use tact and diplomacy to effectively handle a broad range of high level and sensitive interpersonal situations with diverse personalities, and to respond appropriately to conflicts and problems. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to initiate, establish, and foster teamwork and a positive, cooperative, and productive work atmosphere both within and outside the University; ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner while maintaining effective working relationships with a diverse population and those from various cultural backgrounds. Thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation. Ability to interpret, communicate and apply policies and procedures. Education and Experience High School Diploma or equivalent. Five years of general office support or technical experience. Training at a vocational school or full-time college education may be substituted for two years of the required experience based on one year of college education for 6 months of experience. Salary and Benefits Anticipated Hiring Range: $52,404 - $66,456 Per Year. Classification Range: $52,404 - $76,344 Per Year.
