The Naval Station Norfolk supports the operational readiness of the US Atlantic Fleet, providing facilities and services to enable mission accomplishment. Committed to safety, security, and continuous improvement in quality of life and quality of service for all sailors and their families, The Naval Station Norfolk is the largest naval complex in the world. It is geographically located in the Southeastern corner of the Commonwealth of Virginia. The area is collectively known as "Hampton Roads" and is commonly referred to as such by the residents in the area. Hampton Roads generally includes the Cities of Newport News, Hampton, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, and Suffolk, and is populated by over 1 million people. Responsibilities

• Meeting with patients to discuss and treat dental concerns, performing regular cleanings and other preventative procedures, and establish a plan for better dental hygiene.
• Performing dental procedures, such as extractions, root canals, and filling cavities.
• Correcting bite issues and overcrowding.
• Applying helpful agents to teeth, such as sealants or whiteners.
• Prescribing medications for dental problems, such as pain medications or antibiotics.
• Giving clients sedatives or anesthesia prior to administering treatments.
• Ordering diagnostic measures, such as x-rays, models, etc.
• Using tools, such as drills, probes, brushes, or mirrors, to examine and treat teeth and mouth.
• Keeping records relating to the oral health of patients and the treatments given to them.
• Managing and communicating with other staff members to provide care to patients.

Requirements/Qualifications

• Must have Doctor of Medical in Dentistry (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree.
• Must be a graduate from an accredited dental school approved by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) of the American Dental Association (ADA).
• Specialty Dentist must be a graduate of a dental specialty training program that is accredited by the CODA or the ADA or an accepted equivalent program.
• Certification: Board eligible or board certified as required.
• Experience: As required to meet clinical competency requirements specified in the Service Specific Credentialing instruction.
• Shall have a minimum of one (1) full year experience being employed on a full-time basis in the practice of dentistry, or be a recent 1-year graduate of an accredited, post-graduate dentistry training program. Dental specialists shall have a certificate of training in their specialty area from an ADA accredited residency program.
• Must have a current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a dentist.
