Summer Mountaineer Experience Junior Counselor JobID: 1734 Position Type: Summer Support/ Summer School Junior Counselor Date Posted: 4/10/2026 Location: Housatonic Valley Regional High School Date Available: 06/24/26 Position Overview The Summer Mountaineer Experience Junior Counselor plays a vital role in supporting camp activities and ensuring a safe, engaging, and positive experience for all campers. This position requires enthusiasm, responsibility, and a commitment to fostering a fun and inclusive environment. Duties and Responsibilities Assist in the supervision of campers and all program activities. Support group activities by guiding and directing campers in various structured and recreational programs. Promote hands‑on learning, self‑esteem building, cultural diversity, and creative expression. Help create a semi‑structured environment with smooth transitions between activities while allowing for flexibility. Serve as a positive role model for campers and fellow junior counselors. Encourage and enforce camp rules, taking corrective action as necessary to address discipline issues constructively. Uphold all program standards, values, and policies to ensure a safe and respectful camp environment. Remain vigilant to safety hazards and be prepared to administer first aid, CPR, or AED as needed. Recognize concussion symptoms and properly document all injuries. Maintain focus on camper supervision—cell phones, headphones, and other distractions are prohibited while on duty. Ensure the safety, cleanliness, and organization of camp spaces and equipment. Attend required training sessions before and during the camp session. Provide outstanding customer service and support to participants, parents, and fellow staff members. Perform other related duties as assigned. Working Conditions This is a seasonal, temporary position lasting two weeks from July 6, 2026, to July 17, 2026 (Monday – Friday). Work hours are 6.25 hours per day. The work environment involves both indoor and outdoor activities, with exposure to various weather conditions. Applicants will be screened on an ongoing basis; early applications are encouraged.
