Surgical Tech II, Vascular/Thoracic - $20k Bonus

Job Summary The Surgical Tech II facilitates patient care by assisting physicians and nursing staff before, during, and after surgical procedures through the creation and maintenance of a sterile field and the provision of instruments and supplies required by the surgeon in a sterile manner according to the established patient care plan. Responsibilities Facilitates patient care by assisting the surgeon before, during, and after surgical procedures. Plans, sets up, performs, and cleans up the assigned surgical procedure as a circulator and as a scrub tech. Performs sharp, sponge, and instrument counts according to policy. Demonstrates knowledge of and the ability to apply the principles of asepsis in creating and maintaining the sterile field. Additional duties may be assigned. Required Qualifications Graduated from an approved specific discipline OR completed a surgical technologist training program while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. Minimum 1 year of relevant work experience. Certifications NBSTSA CST – National Board of Surgical Technologists and Surgical Assistants, Certified Surgical Technologist. NCCT – TS‑C, National Center for Competency Testing, Tech in Surgery. Exception: If graduate of a surgical technologist armed‑forces training program, no certification is required. Technical Capabilities Surgical Equipment Knowledge (Novice) – basic operation of specific equipment and its performance criteria. Procedures Knowledge – limited experience and training in procedure‑related tasks. Operating Room Care (Novice) – fundamental proficiency under direction of others. Environmental Sterility & Safety – limited experience and training. Inventory Management – basic understanding of inventory concepts and tools. Surgical Technology – fundamental proficiency in basic surgical technology tasks. Equipment Maintenance – limited experience in maintenance activities within assigned area. Work Experience Minimum 1 year of relevant work experience. Education Graduate of an approved specific discipline program or completion of a surgical technologist training program during U.S. Armed Forces service. Benefits & Compensation Position Shift: Full Time, Days. Sign‑On Bonus: $20,000 (taxable) paid over 2 years of employment. Not applicable to current or former VUMC staff within the last year. Relocation Bonus: Up to $10,000 (taxable) within 45 days of hire based on relocation mileage. Must relocate from more than 100 miles. Not applicable to current or former VUMC staff within the last year.
