Position Summary and Responsibilities The Garage Mechanic is a full-time position. Mechanics will diagnose, adjust, repair or overhaul trucks and all types of diesel engines. Must provide your own tools. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Perform duties by following the Company's safety standards. Install and repair industrial and commercial refrigerating systems. Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment, drill press, and jacks and hoists. Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings and other important parts to ensure that they are in proper operating condition. Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery. Adjust and reline brakes, align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment. Raise trucks, buses, and heavy parts or equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists. Test drive trucks and buses to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly. Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts and pressure gauges. Immediately communicate problems with Supervisor by phone. Obey traffic laws and follow established traffic and transportation procedures. Other responsibilities may be assigned by the manager. Work Schedules 1 Night Schedules Sunday – Tuesday: 7pm – 7am Wednesday – 7pm – 1am Off Thursday – Saturday 2 Day Schedules Work Schedule 1: Wednesday 1pm – 7pm; Thursday – Saturday 7am – 7pm; Off Sunday – Tuesday Work Schedule 2: Sunday – Tuesday 7am – 7pm; Wednesday 7am – 1pm; Off Thursday – Saturday Education and Work Experience Requirements Driver's License required. 3 years of Diesel Mechanic experience and/or training required. Experience/training with Thermo King or Carrier refrigeration not required but preferred. High school diploma or GED; 2 years or more related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Physical Requirements Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards. Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards. Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 lbs.
