Supervisor, Transportation (CDL A) - SYGMA - Indianapolis, IN

Job Summary This position provides support to the transportation manager/director in supervising the activities related to delivery and backhauls. The role includes training and supervising transportation department associates, ensuring compliance with government regulations, and promoting safety and security within the department. It also requires travel to other domiciles in Channahon, IL to oversee drivers at that location. Pay is $75K-$80K DOE plus a 10 percent annual bonus. A CDL A is required. Responsibilities Supervise the daily work and safety of transportation associates, ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures, food safety standards, preferred work methods, planned routes, and safe, efficient customer service. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies (e.g., DOT, OSHA) and accurate maintenance of electronic logs. Oversee labor hours and consumable supplies within budget. Prepare work schedules, including extra workdays and shifts as needed. Assist in training new associates and cross‑training existing ones. Direct the proper selection and utilization of company assets to support the delivery department. Coordinate required repairs with appropriate departments. Review delivery functions and productivity reporting; suggest efficiency ideas and cost‑reduction measures and assist with implementation of delivery changes. Interpret, train, and consistently enforce company policies, protocols, and procedures including food safety, DOT, and record‑keeping. Communicate with warehouse and customer service teams to collaboratively resolve customer or delivery issues. Visit customer locations and meet with customers to address issues and assess delivery difficulty. Maintain positive associate relations through regular department or pre‑shift meetings. Keep open communication channels with associates by answering questions and explaining policies and procedures. Monitor associate morale and submit and respond to ideas to improve engagement and enablement. Work with the safety manager to aid in training, conduct associate observations, update work methods, investigate accidents, and perform routine safety inspections. Make recommendations for corrective action and/or behavior modification when required. Perform staff selection, development, discipline, performance reviews, and/or terminations as needed. Adhere to the assigned schedule, exhibit reliable attendance, and work outside normal hours as required to meet workload demands. Perform the duties of supervised associates and other related duties as needed. Qualifications Education High school diploma, GED, or equivalent degree; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred: 2‑ or 4‑year college degree in business management, supply chain management, or a similar major. Experience 2–4 years of transportation experience and/or training. Commercial vehicle drivers must be able to read and speak English sufficiently to converse with the public, understand highway traffic signs and signals, respond to official inquiries, and make entries on reports and records. Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations Class A Commercial Driver’s License is preferred but not required. Certificate of DOT regulations training is preferred. Professional Skills Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, DOT rules and regulations, preferred work methods, and standard operating procedures. Proficiency with spreadsheet and word‑processing software. Skilled in making independent decisions that support company policies on time. Ability to engage and lead individual and team discussions and meetings. Problem‑solving and interpreting written, oral, diagrammatic, or scheduled instructions. Apply all relevant policies consistently, timely, and objectively. Work disciplined and comply with local, state, and federal regulations. Manage pressure associated with deadlines and customer service issues. Learn SYGMA technology software and programs. Read, comprehend, write, and speak English. Basic arithmetic skills across all units of measure. Read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and governmental regulations. Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the public.
