Nurse Extern Spine PRN

Mission Health, based in Asheville, NC, is seeking a Nurse Extern – Spine PRN to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team within the Spine unit. In this role, you will work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, supporting the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals undergoing spine-related surgical procedures and treatments. As a Nurse Extern, you will apply and strengthen the knowledge and skills gained in your nursing program while gaining hands-on experience in a fast-paced acute care environment.
The Nurse Extern – Spine PRN will assist with basic patient care activities such as vital sign monitoring, intake and output measurement, assistance with mobility and activities of daily living, and post-operative care of spine patients. You will help prepare patients for procedures, support pain management initiatives according to the RN’s plan of care, assist with positioning and turning to maintain spinal precautions, and promptly report changes in patient condition to the RN. You will perform delegated clinical tasks within your scope, maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record, and adhere to all infection prevention, safety, and quality standards.
Collaboration is central to this role. You will work closely with RNs, physicians, physical and occupational therapists, and other members of the interprofessional team to ensure coordinated, compassionate care. You will participate in bedside handoff, contribute to patient and family education by reinforcing information provided by the RN, and support discharge planning activities as appropriate. Strong communication, attention to detail, and a commitment to patient advocacy are essential.
