About This Job The Athletic Trainer (AT) will perform services within the scope of practice as defined by the Colorado Medical Practice Act, C.R.S. 12-36-106, and the Athletic Trainer Practice Act, C.R.S. 12-29-101. Duties include preventing, evaluating, documenting, educating, providing immediate care, making referrals, coordinating care of athletic injuries, and communicating with coaches, athletes, and parents. The authority of the AT is under the direction of the sports medicine medical director and the school athletic director. The priority is coverage of practices and events for student‑athletes, parents, coaches, and school administrators. What You’ll Do Manage and provide care of injuries to Denver Public Schools high school athletes under a licensed physician, including emergency care, injury prevention programs, and rehabilitation within the scope of a certified athletic trainer. Maintain general treatment orders, emergency protocols, and action plans reviewed annually and approved by medical direction. Provide athletic training services for all home practices, games, and away varsity football games. Act as liaison between physicians, specialists, athletes, and parents. Maintain accurate records of injuries and treatments and facilitate referrals within HIPAA and FERPA constraints. Educate athletes, families, and coaches about injuries, risk factors, and exercise programs. Communicate regularly with head coaches and the athletic director about injured athlete status and return‑to‑play recommendations. Order supplies for the sports medicine clinic within the athletic director’s guidelines and budget. Work to reduce athletic injuries through conditioning programs and implement rehabilitation programs for injured athletes. Comply with all policies regarding health care delivery under the Colorado Medical Practice Act and the district sports medicine program policies.
