Acute Care & Emergency Room Registered Nurse

Hours / Days: Night Shift (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM) Full-time: 3 shifts per week | Part-time: 1-2 shift per week Every 3rd weekend rotation required Holiday rotation required $35 - $45 / hour base rate (RN) | $5 / hour Night Shift Differential | $7 / hour Weekend Night Shift Differential Up to $15,000 Sign-on Bonus available | Tuition Assistance | Flexible Scheduling | Low Nurse-to-Patient Ratio Reports To : Chief Nursing Officer Expectations: RN will be responsible for Med/Surg, Swing Bed (Skilled), and ER patient flow. BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC certifications will be required within one year of employment if not already obtained. • Delivers nursing care utilizing standards of clinical nursing practice.
• Collect and assess objective and subjective patient health data through observations, examinations, interviews and written records, involving the patient, significant others, and health providers in data collection when appropriate.

Documentation:

• Prepares complete and concise assessment documentation through flow sheet charting as well as written nurses notes in the EMR. Documentation should reflect all assessments made, interventions carried out, and evaluations of responses to interventions.
• The frequency of assessments is based upon the acuity of the patient. The documentation policy states the least number of assessments/ nursing interventions. A nurse may always assess the patient's status more frequently than required by policy.

Administration of Medications and Treatments:

• Documents current patient medications through electronic medication reconciliation in the Dr. First program linked to the EMR.
• Utilizes BCMA for the administration and second-check of medications during administration to patients.
• Reports the potential for unsafe medication delivery/harm using Incident Tracker's medication error form.
• Works in collaboration with ePharmacy and medical staff to calculate drug doses and drip rates in order to administer appropriate doses of medications to patients.

Organization:

• Establishes priorities and organizes work for efficient delivery of patient care. Demonstrates ability to adapt to changes in work load or patient assignments.

Computer Skills:

• Generation of MAR, documentation in MAR
• Patient admissionable to admit and document all steps of a patient admission according to policy.
• Patient TransferAble to transfer a patient in an emergency situation and correctly completes all required transfer paperwork according to EMTALA and KCHS policy.

Customer Service:

• Assists all patients, family members/significant others, physicians, visitors and employees in a friendly manner.
• Introduces self and uses caring, thoughtful words either in person or on the telephone.
• Demonstrates ethical and appropriate behavior for a healthcare environment to include, but not limited to, dignity, patient's rights and privacy, and the maintenance of confidentiality of patient information.

• Demonstrate proper telephone etiquette. If transferring a telephone call, announces the caller and briefly explains the situation before ending the transfer.

Infection Control:

• Demonstrates adherence to infection control policies as evidenced by in-service attendance records and employee practices
• Demonstrates correct hand washing technique.
• Demonstrates knowledge of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and uses same in practice.
• Notifies the Infection Control Nurse of real or potential exposures.

Risk Management & Safety Program:

• Demonstrates adherence to risk management and safety policies and codes as evidenced by in-service attendance records and employee practices.
• Maintains a clean and safe environment for patient and co-workers.
• Follows all general safety rules.
• Notified the Safety Director and/or Risk Manager of incidents involving injury or having the potential for injury. Submits incident reports according to hospital policy.

Educational Responsibilities:

• Completes required careLearning modules
• Attends mandatory Safety/NIMS in-services yearly
• Completes other required certifications or classes as necessary to perform the essential functions of the job.
• Attends staff meetings or reads and "marks as read" meeting minutes in Policy Tech 100% of the time.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

• Associate's Degree or above in Nursing
• Valid driver's license

Certificates, Licensure, Registrations:

• Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nebraska
• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
