Technician

Position Summary The Driveline Technician performs all aspects of driveline service, including cleaning, disassembly, inspection, diagnosis, repair, welding, assembly, balancing, and testing. The Technician must be able to independently complete driveline repairs and identify problems that may affect the performance, safety, or quality of the finished product. The Technician is also responsible for properly operating and maintaining driveline machinery and equipment and for ensuring completed drivelines meet company and applicable manufacturer specifications. Key Responsibilities Independently clean, disassemble, inspect, repair, assemble, and balance complete driveline assemblies. Diagnose driveline issues and determine the appropriate repair or replacement requirements. Identify driveline components and accurately determine necessary repairs. Inspect incoming components for wear, damage, or other conditions that may affect the finished assembly. Use chemical and mechanical methods to properly clean driveline components. Perform disassembly using appropriate hand tools and power tools. Assemble and disassemble drivelines using a variety of specialized tools and equipment. Perform welding and related fabrication work required for the repair and manufacture of driveline components. Operate welding equipment safely and effectively, including selecting the appropriate welding method and settings for the application. Ensure welded components meet company quality and dimensional requirements. Measure components using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and other precision measuring equipment. Operate balancing machines and other driveline-specific equipment. Troubleshoot drivelines that do not meet required specifications and make appropriate corrections. Inspect and test completed assemblies to verify proper operation and balance. Operate and perform routine maintenance on machinery and equipment. Identify equipment issues and communicate maintenance or repair needs to management. Use computer systems and software to control testing processes and accurately record required information. Follow all documented procedures, work instructions, safety requirements, and quality standards. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Provide professional and timely service that meets or exceeds customer expectations. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in driveline repair, heavy-duty truck repair, automotive repair, welding, or a related mechanical field preferred. High school diploma or GED preferred. Automotive, diesel, mechanical, or welding trade-school training is highly desirable. Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn. Demonstrated ability to safely and effectively perform welding and fabrication work. Ability to read and understand measurements and use precision measuring tools. Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and determine appropriate repairs. Ability to operate and perform routine maintenance on mechanical equipment and machinery. Basic computer and keyboarding skills. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality. Results-oriented with the ability to work independently. Strong teamwork and communication skills. Commitment to providing excellent customer service. Ability and willingness to follow company policies, procedures, work instructions, and safety requirements. Must properly use all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). All necessary tools and equipment will be provided by the company. Welding Requirement Welding is an essential function of this position. The Driveline Technician must be capable of performing welding and related fabrication work required to manufacture, repair, and modify driveline components. The Technician is expected to: Safely operate welding equipment and related tools. Perform quality welds appropriate for the material and application. Prepare components and surfaces for welding. Inspect completed welds for quality, strength, and proper fit. Follow all applicable welding, safety, and PPE requirements. Maintain a clean and safe welding work area. Candidates with welding experience or formal welding training are preferred. The ability to learn and demonstrate proficiency in the welding processes required by the company is required. Physical Requirements The physical demands described below are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. This is primarily a standing, hands-on position requiring the employee to work at a workbench, machinery, and other workstations for most of the workday. Must be able to frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach. Must be able to occasionally climb or balance. Must be able to frequently lift and/or move materials and components weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move materials and components weighing up to 70 pounds, with appropriate assistance or equipment when required. Must be capable of safely handling mechanical components, tools, and equipment. Must be able to wear required PPE for extended periods, including appropriate eye, hearing, hand, and welding protection when applicable. Work Environment The Driveline Technician works in a mechanical shop environment with exposure to machinery, tools, welding operations, noise, dust, grease, oils, cleaning chemicals, and other materials commonly associated with driveline repair and manufacturing. The employee is expected to follow all company safety policies and use required PPE at all times. Core Purpose of the Position The Driveline Technician is responsible for the inspection, remanufacturing, manufacturing, repair, assembly, and balancing of automotive, medium-duty, and heavy-duty drivelines and components. The Technician is expected to produce high-quality work in a timely manner while following established procedures and maintaining the company's standards for safety, accuracy, and customer service.
