Year-round programming includes the publishing of two highly regarded scientific journals, JNeurosci and eNeuro; professional development resources and career training through Neuronline, the Society's home for learning and discussion; science advocacy and public policy engagement including annual Capitol Hill Day; and a variety of engaging public outreach efforts, led by the expanding and interactive collection of public-facing resources on BrainFacts.org. SfN's annual meeting regularly attracts more than 30,000 attendees, representing 80 countries; 536 exhibiting companies; and close to 300 journalists.

Position Summary

The Marketing Operations Manager provides operational oversight and project management for activities that support, streamline, and advance the execution and completion of marketing and sales campaigns, promotional plans, and special projects serving the Society. The role coordinates departmental and cross-functional initiatives, ensuring activities, timelines, dependencies, and deliverables are effectively managed and tracked. Key areas of focus include initiatives tied to the Society's membership, annual meetings, scientific publications, webinars, advertising, and sales functions.

Essential Job Functions

• Coordinates and oversees marketing calendars, project schedules and timelines, and vendor lists utilized by the department.
• Leads marketing projects from planning through execution across email, direct mail, paid and trade advertising, websites, and social media. Defines scope, coordinates resources, establishes timelines and budgets, and tracks dependencies and deliverables to ensure timely completion and alignment with organizational goals.
• Maintains master advertising schedule across SfN digital properties and journals, and coordinates ad placement through SfN's advertising platform.
• Tracks and ensures departmental Purchase Requests, Purchase Orders, contracts and agreements, and invoices are completed and approved per organizational guidelines.
• Coordinates logistics for SfN booth presence at the Society's annual meeting and other organizations' meetings that the Society may attend. Available to staff SfN's annual meeting if/as needed.
• Fulfills on-site advertising commitments for the Society's annual meeting, including coordinating production and placement of sponsored items.
• Obtains estimates and competitive bids for print jobs, promotional items, and other projects as needed based on the Society's established processes and budgets.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Manage a department of one or more people by hiring and developing talent, delegating effectively, communicating expectations clearly, and providing professional development opportunities.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree required, master's degree a plus
• 4+ years of progressively responsible experience in marketing, marketing operations, project or production management, or a related field
• Demonstrated experience independently managing complex, concurrent projects involving multiple stakeholders, dependencies, vendors, and deadlines
• 1+ years of supervisory or formal team-lead experience, including responsibility for assigning work, managing performance, and supporting staff development
• Experience managing competitive bidding, vendor selection, contract fulfillment, and production budgets strongly preferred

Qualifications

• Proficient in office automation (word processing, spreadsheet, database, project management software) and internet research skills, including ability to learn new software quickly
• Excellent project management, planning, and organizing skills
• Strong judgment and decision-making skills
• Ability to identify trends and opportunities, and develop data-informed recommendations to improve processes and support decision-making
• Conscientious and highly detail-oriented, with eye for quality control, accuracy, consistency, and standards
• Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with ability to provide superior customer service to both internal and external stakeholders
• Ability to set and adjust priorities while balancing diverse perspectives and evolving needs
• Ability to be nimble and work in a team environment with fast turnarounds and tight deadlines
• Knowledge of direct mail and U.S. Postal regulations preferred

• Remote & DMV Required - Employee must be based in the DMV area for reasons related to this position but may not need to regularly come into the office. Employees can work remotely in the DMV area as part of a 35-hour workweek with core hours from 10am-3pm Eastern time. A reliable high-speed internet connection is essential.
