Position Summary We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Medical Assistant – Huntington. The successful candidate will assist physicians, advanced care practitioners, and nurses in patient care. Responsibilities include validating patient identifiers, preparing patients and rooms for examination, measuring and recording vital signs, drawing blood, collecting laboratory samples, and performing administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, answering calls, and data entry. Job Responsibilities Escort patients to exam rooms Cleans and stocks exam rooms Measures and records patient vital signs Obtains and processes blood samples per NYULH policy Supports quality initiatives by following FGP guidelines for collecting and documenting information in the EMR Promotes a positive patient experience Communicates effectively with providers and administrative staff, escalating issues when needed Answers phone calls Reviews and responds to inbox messages Follows up on refill requests Assists physicians with patient intake & transcribing visits into EPIC Performs other duties as needed Clinical & Administrative Responsibilities Completes necessary intake including vital signs and other tests within scope of practice Follows guidelines for validating patient medical records when accessing and updating information, including name and date of birth Assists with maintaining patient flow to and from exam rooms and treatment areas Ensures exam rooms and treatment areas are cleaned per infection control standards after each patient Communicates the functionality and purpose of MyChart to patients during intake Ensures appropriate translation services or equipment are in place prior to the start of the visit Assists with blood/specimen collection and ensures proper handling and processing according to policy and procedure Performs point‑of‑care testing such as EKG, glucose testing, pregnancy tests, and urinalysis per policy, with required competency documentation Prepares the appropriate patient encounter to ensure updated information for the visit Reviews and imports "Prepare for Your Visit", "Outside Information," and patient history prior to provider encounter Works with clinicians to ensure logbooks related to equipment, specimen collection, and other clinical safety measures follow FGP standards Supports MIPS workflow by updating records with vital signs and immunization, medical, and surgical histories; may scan or upload diagnostic reports to Epic Maintains patient privacy per HIPAA standards Handles patient calls and documents outcomes; refers clinical questions to RN or provider Assists with inbox message management for medical advice requests, following best practices Utilizes EPIC to review and update records and communicate with peers and supervisors Assists physicians with procedure set‑up as needed Stocks exam/treatment rooms and supply closets; communicates when supplies need replenishment Cleans and sterilizes equipment after use per policy, documenting competency Supports FGP Clinical Quality Management by documenting and maintaining clinical supplies and equipment Reviews downtime procedures related to patient visit Completes annual competencies such as fire safety, hazardous waste, medication safety, HIPAA compliance, etc. Partners with administrative and clinical staff to complete prior authorization, medication refills, and referrals related to patient continuity of care Assists with prescription refill requests by locating the prescription, identifying last visit, and tasking RN/LPN/Provider to evaluate and process renewal Accompanies physician into exam room and transcribes history, physical exam, and orders per MD dictation; documents accurately the encounter Lists all diagnoses, symptoms, follow‑up instructions, and prescriptions per physician Documents patient orders including lab tests, radiology, and medications Performs other duties as assigned Patient Experience and Access Serves as NYU Langone Health Faculty Group Practice Brand Ambassador by upholding the NYULH Mission, vision, and values and promoting excellence Drives consistency in patient and colleague encounters by embodying the core principles of the FGP Service Strategy CARES (Connect, Align, Respond, Ensure, Sign‑Off) Greets patients warmly, states name and role, and clearly communicates each step of care Collaborates with colleagues and site management to resolve patient interactions and inquiries promptly, via in‑person, phone, or electronic messaging Anticipates patient needs, participates in service recovery applying the LEARN model (Listen, Empathize, Apologize, Resolve, Notify), and escalates to leadership when appropriate Shares ideas or opportunities to improve patient experience and access with leadership (e.g., schedule optimization, delay minimization, engagement) Partners with Patient Access Center and Central Billing Office to support collaboration and positive experience Takes a proactive approach to ensure staff are fully versed in the Access Agreement gold‑standard principles Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program OR, upon hire, hold a current medical‑assistant certification from a nationally recognized institution (e.g., AAMA, AMT, NCCT, NHA). Competencies: working knowledge of English (verbal, reading, writing); other language an asset; demonstrated computer skills; ability to multitask efficiently and thrive in a team‑oriented environment focused on positive patient care. Preferred Qualifications Medical assistant experience preferred. EKG, phlebotomy, and venipuncture experience preferred. Candidates must effectively communicate with all organization levels.
