Position Overview

Your primary responsibilities will include conducting consultations, formulating treatment plans, and delivering follow-up care for both inpatient and outpatient veterans. You will actively engage in multidisciplinary team meetings, quality improvement projects, and educational initiatives. Your expertise will be crucial in assessing, consulting, and treating patients with hematologic and oncologic conditions. You will also perform procedures such as chemotherapy administration and bone marrow aspirations.

Collaboration is essential in this role, as you will work closely with fellow providers, nurses, pharmacists, and other specialists to ensure comprehensive care for our veterans. Participation in tumor board meetings at the VA and other conferences at UCSF Fresno is a vital aspect of this position. Additionally, you will have opportunities to engage in research and clinical trials, and you may become a faculty member in Hematology and Oncology at UCSF Fresno. Training residents, fellows, and medical students who rotate through the VA will also be part of your responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Veteran-Centered Care: Provide comprehensive hematology and oncology services focusing on health maintenance, disease prevention, patient education, and management of cancer and blood disorders.
  • Clinical Excellence: Conduct consultations and create personalized treatment plans for patients with hematologic and oncologic issues. Manage preoperative and postoperative care for cancer patients.
  • Quality Improvement: Engage in ongoing quality improvement initiatives to enhance care delivery and utilize various measurement tools to monitor and improve clinical performance.
  • Clinical Leadership: Act as a mentor and role model for other healthcare professionals within the hematology and oncology team, providing guidance and support to trainees.
  • Healthcare Coordination: Ensure coordinated care for veterans by collaborating with other healthcare providers to develop tailored treatment plans.
