Compensation Maximum – Based on experience Minimum – $20.36 What You’ll Do Operate fire engines to respond to fire, crashes, and rescue calls; and use mobile equipment, hand tools, and extinguishers to suppress aircraft, structural, forest, and automobile fires. Respond to medical emergency needs of passengers and terminal visitors until advanced medical care arrives. Maintain awareness of security concerns on the airfield and report concerns to Communications. Check airfield and report debris, malfunctioning lights, and hazards. Complete and maintain proper record‑keeping of fire and medical call reports. Check and service fire extinguishers and Automated External Defibrillators in airport buildings. Perform fit testing for air packs and N‑95 mask; perform service testing for SCBA and ladders; test and service fire hydrants. Attend classes in firefighting, rescue, and emergency services techniques and methods; and train with other departments to facilitate mutual aid response. Clean and maintain fire stations and adjacent grounds; and maintain supplies and materials on fire and rescue vehicles. Perform related work as required. What You Need Education High school diploma or equivalent Experience 2 years of experience in volunteer or career firefighting 1 year of experience driving and operating fire apparatus and pumps Preferred Experience 2 or more years of experience driving and operating fire apparatus and pumps. Licenses or Certifications Valid NC Class B Driver’s License (or ability to obtain within 6 months) NC Firefighter or IFSAC/ProBoard equivalent NC EMT or National Registry (must receive Reciprocity within 6 months) NC Hazardous Material Level I or IFSAC/ProBoard equivalent NC Driver Operator – Pumps or IFSAC/ProBoard equivalent NC Emergency Vehicle Driver NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800 Add your IFSAC/ProBoard or State fire certificates/transcripts, as well as EMT card as additional documentation, along with a current resume Ideal Candidate Profile Knowledge of Hazardous materials OSHA guidelines Principles, practices, procedures, and equipment used in fire prevention/suppression and protection of life and property Emergency medical techniques and procedures Modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment ESO Incident Reporting software Skilled at Written and verbal communication Analysis and problem solving Firefighting and rescue Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships Performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature Performing basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, and ratios Bilingual in English and Spanish (or other) Ability to Work 24‑hour rotating shifts (includes nights, weekends, holidays, inclement weather, emergency call‑back and/or hold‑over) Identify security concerns Maintain cleanliness and readiness of fire station and equipment Maintain accurate records and reports Perform minor service work on systems Handle stressful emergency situations in an efficient and calm manner Read, write, understand, and speak English fluently Work effectively in a teamwork environment Handle difficult situations with tact and diplomacy Formulate sound conclusions Meet schedules and deadlines of the work Understand and carry out oral and written directions Accurately organize and maintain paper documents and electronic files Maintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundaries Work Environment / Conditions The work environment and exposures described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
