Staff Software Engineer | AI / FinTech | NYC

I’m working with an early-stage AI startup hiring a hands-on Staff Engineer to help shape the architecture and technical direction of its core product.

The platform helps banks and wealth managers deliver personalised financial guidance, with reliability, governance and explainability built into the engineering.

You’ll lead complex systems from design through to production, spanning core applications, public APIs, distributed backend infrastructure, data pipelines and multi-agent workflows.

They’re looking for:

• Deep Python expertise and strong distributed systems fundamentals

• A track record of leading complex production systems and architectural decisions

• Strong database design and the ability to contribute across React/TypeScript when needed

• Hands-on use of modern AI development tools

• Experience leading technical initiatives, mentoring engineers and improving engineering practices

Experience with applied AI, agentic systems or large-scale data pipelines would be a big plus.

You’ll need to thrive in a startup environment: take ownership, challenge assumptions and turn ambiguity into working software. Experience in a small autonomous team within a larger company could also fit.

$224–274k base + equity | 4 days/week in the office
