PURPOSE

Under the general supervision of a site administrator, supervises students at an elementary school during assigned periods before, during, and after school to enforce health, safety, and security policies, stimulate positive student relations, and maintain a safe, positive learning environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A high school diploma or GED and experience working with groups of elementary school age children in an organized environment are preferred.

Under the general supervision of a site administrator, supervises students at an elementary school during assigned periods before, during, and after school to enforce health, safety, and security policies, stimulate positive student relations, and maintain a safe, positive learning environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Patrols assigned areas of campus during assigned periods (e.g. morning drop off, recess, nutrition/lunch breaks, after school pick up, etc.) including but not limited to front/back of school, cafeteria/patio, restrooms, hallways, blacktop/fields, playgrounds, gates, and parking lots to monitor student behavior, attend to student needs, ensure compliance with established rules and guidelines, and maintain order and safety.
- Responds to a variety of situations (e.g. accidents, injuries, emergency situations) to take appropriate action to resolve immediate safety and security concerns; takes action to prevent or stop students from engaging in unsafe activities according to established guidelines.
- Engages in conflict management according to established protocols and promptly alerts administration of physical altercations to minimize disruption of campus activities and prevent injury to involved parties.
- Reports injuries, safety hazards, altercations, unusual behavior, and other incidents to appropriate site personnel in accordance with established guidelines.
- Escorts students to the administration office for disciplinary action as necessary in accordance with established guidelines.
- Communicates school policies and enforcement procedures to students and visitors to ensure their understanding of such information and the potential consequences of violation.
- Verifies student and visitor passes to prevent unauthorized personnel from entering campus and to ensure students have proper authorization when not in class; refers visitors to the administration office to follow proper sign-in procedures; escorts students without proper authorization to the administration office or other designated location in accordance with established guidelines.
- Develops appropriate rapport and encourages courtesy among students to promote positive student relations.
- Assists students at nutrition and lunch time (e.g. assisting with the formation of lines, carrying trays, opening drinks and condiments, disposing of trash) to ensure students are eating and conducting themselves appropriately during meal times.
- Issues and collects equipment approved for use during outdoor activities.
- Supervises games and play activities to maintain reasonable order.
- Assists with evacuation, fire, and lockdown drills to ensure the orderly movement of students from classrooms to designated meeting locations.
- May wipe tables and benches in cafeteria and outside eating areas.
Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.

- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Demonstrate sensitivity to students, colleagues, and public with diverse cultures, languages, ethnic, socioeconomic, and other backgrounds

- Work in an outdoor environment, primarily of an active nature
- Stand and walk for extended periods of time on various surfaces, including uneven terrain
- Bend and twist at the waist and stoop to assist students and pick up toys, equipment, and other objects
- Twist at the neck to observe and monitor campus grounds
- Reach below shoulder level to reach for toys, backpacks, and other objects
- Use both hands and arms to reach, handle and grasp objects, and perform various duties
- See to observe campus activity, monitor student behavior, and work safely in open areas with obstacles
- Hear ordinary conversation and other sounds in order to respond to normal and emergency situations
- Lift, carry, and push objects of light weight (up to 10 pounds) on a frequent basis and of moderate weight (up to 25 pounds) on an occasional basis
- Move agilely to respond to emergency situations
- Work is performed primarily outdoors where seasonal heat and cold, adverse weather conditions, and exposure to dust, winds, and pollen may exist.
- Work is performed occasionally indoors.
- Exposure to excessive noise when around children playing
