University of Colorado Denver Department: Facilities Management Job Title: Pipe Mechanical Trades II – HVAC Technician Position: # 2914 – Requisition: #39234 Job Summary: Join the Facilities Management Department on the University of Colorado Denver Campus as a PMT‑II Facilities Maintenance HVAC Technician (Housing). This is a full‑time state classified position. The role is on‑call after hours, including weekends and holidays, to support 24/7 operations. Maintain all facilities and operating systems safely and efficiently. Operate, monitor, service, and repair a wide array of refrigeration equipment, HVAC systems, and associated hardware for all CU Denver campus buildings. Respond to emergency HVAC and refrigeration calls and ensure safe and efficient operation and training of personnel for the HVAC/R systems. Key Responsibilities Perform corrective and preventive maintenance as assigned. Communicate effectively with vendors and contractors. Maintain electronic reports and inventory records. Operate university vehicles to transport tools and equipment to work sites. Respond to alarms and emergencies, resolve issues, and prioritize based on urgency. Make necessary changes in BAS to building system operating parameters. Collaborate with team members to improve performance. Work closely with the supervisor to implement leadership directives. Participate in after‑hours call‑back rotation. Work Location: Onsite – located in Denver, Colorado. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Current CFC Universal Certification. Four years of progressively responsible experience in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration, with at least two years with process chillers. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with VRF refrigeration systems. Experience entering, updating, and modifying database information. Experience in inspecting, replacing, adjusting, and calibrating electronic refrigeration controls and components. Ability to perform accurate refrigerant charge calculations. Experience performing preventive maintenance and repairs on HVAC/R systems and components. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish rapport across diverse backgrounds. Strong customer service skills. Excellent oral communication and ability to handle stressful situations calmly. Strong written communication and attention to detail. Mechanical and physical ability. Planning and organization skills. Knowledge of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems.
