Career and Technical Education Pathways Coach

This position is contingent upon grant funding and is reviewed annually for continuation and is strictly contingent upon the receipt of necessary funding sources and contractual agreements.
Summary
The CTE Pathways Coach works as a student-centered professional dedicated to fostering academic persistence, engagement, and completion among students enrolled in Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. The Coach serves as the primary point of contact for students, providing proactive support to help them assess their goals, progress along their career pathway, and access resources to navigate the complexities of higher education. In this capacity, the Coach conducts proactive outreach and resource referral leveraging on-campus support services for students including Academic Advisors, Career Development, Educational Support Services, Student Life, Counselors, Community Resources, Financial Aid, faculty, and others. The Coach makes direct referrals to these professionals for the specific expertise/assistance needed to strengthen persistence, resilience, academic progress, academic and career planning, goal achievement, self-management, and negotiation of life challenges related to work, family, and college. The Coach, carefully and continuously assesses each student’s needs, monitors their progress, and engages them in success planning ensuring their retention, completion, credential attainment, and successful transition into employment or continued education. This position maintains student records, ensuring compliance with grant requirements and reporting expectations. This position is embedded in the Career Development Center and reports directly to the Director of Career Development and Civic Engagement.
This position is contingent upon the availability of Perkins grant funding.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Foster persistence and completion among Career and Technical Education (CTE) students, maintaining a caseload created by A3 alerts and/or faculty, administration, and other staff referrals.
- Conduct student intake meetings to assess educational goals, career interests, support needs, and readiness for training and employment.
- Implement intentional strategies to identify at-risk students and monitor students’ progress through regular email, text messaging, and phone, and through scheduled meetings or proactive outreach and communication, responding to students’ questions, concerns, and needs with compassion, respect, encouragement, and empathy.
- Conduct responsive coaching through individual or group sessions or the development of individualized success plans to support student retention, completion, credential attainment, and employment outcomes.
- Collaborate with faculty, academic advisors, student services staff, and other personnel to support student success and coordinate interventions when needed.
- Assist students with career exploration activities, career pathway planning, goal setting, and transition planning.
- Conduct workshops and information sessions related to career readiness, employability skills, workplace expectations, financial literacy, time management, and student success strategies.
- Collaborate with the Apprenticeship, Pre-apprenticeship, and Internship Navigator to identify students who may benefit from apprenticeship, internship, or other work-based learning opportunities and facilitate referrals as appropriate.
- Work closely with Career Development staff to connect students with career resources, job placement services, employer engagement activities, and employment opportunities.
- Assist with recruitment and outreach activities to increase student awareness and participation in CTE programs, including those nontraditional to their gender.
- Identify barriers to student success and coordinate referrals to appropriate college and community resources, such as Academic Advisors, Career Development, Educational Support Services, Student Life, Counselors, Community Resources, Financial Aid, faculty, and others to address a range of student needs.
- Serves as a point of contact for students seeking assistance and provide information about policies, resources, and college processes.
- Track student interactions, progress, and outcomes; maintains accurate records in line with confidentiality and compliance guidelines by using college systems to measure the effectiveness of success initiatives.
- Gather student feedback and recommend improvements to programs, services, and student support initiatives.
- Prepare reports and presentations for college leadership, Perkins stakeholders, community partners, and grant funders to demonstrate program effectiveness and student outcomes.
- Serves on college committees relevant to the success and retention of students enrolled in CTE programs.
- Maintain accurate time and effort reporting and other documentation required for grant compliance.
Qualifications
Required:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in a Career or Technical area or equivalent from an accredited institution.
Certifications:
- Act 153 Clearances (Act 34 PA Criminal Background, Act 151 PA Child Abuse History, Act 114 FBI Cogent Clearance Fingerprinting).
Work Experience:
- Three years of experience in student services, career counseling, case management, advising, education, human resources, or related fields.
- A minimum of three years proven experience teaching in a classroom
- One year assisting college students in an advising, counseling, or academic coaching position at an institution of higher education; OR one year employed as a case manager in a human service organization
- Familiarity with the mission of a comprehensive community college.

- Individual should be creative and resourceful, with the ability to establish collaborative relationships.

- Must be able to travel to all college and community
- Knowledge of Canvas, Banner web, Achieve Appointment Manager, and CRM Advise
- Must possess a high level of the following work skills and behaviors: leadership, teamwork/cooperation, initiative, customer service, and commitment to continuous professional growth in skills and knowledge.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in a Career or Technical area from an accredited institution.
- Knowledge of career pathways, apprenticeships, and community resources.
Physical Demands
- Ability to effectively communicate, perceive, and exchange information with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Operate, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls using hands, arms, or adaptive equipment.
- Ability to safely lift, transport, or move objects up to 15 lbs regularly and up to 25 lbs occasionally.
- Vision capabilities sufficient to view screens, read printed materials, and observe work environments (with or without assistive devices).

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
