Shipping Clerk

The Shipping Clerk keeps records for all products shipped and received in a company. Essential duties and responsibilities include preparing shipments by assembling, packing, protecting, and labeling shipping units as needed; determining method of shipment by examining items to be shipped, destination, route, rate, and time of shipment; shipping items by verifying identifying information and quantity and condition of items; documenting items shipped by recording identifying information of items and transport information; maintaining shipping and receiving materials by checking stock to determine inventory level; filling out Daily Logistics Report and Daily Shipping Status Report; pulling picks daily, scheduling and routing all common carrier loads, and confirming with the carrier; helping verify out-bound loads; entering product returns and stock transfers as needed; preparing outbound packages ready for UPS and delivering inbound items; contacting sales when customer PO's are not in the system or if they duplicate orders; if inbound trucks are late, calling the company and reporting it and reporting to the shipping manager its ETA; keeping forms, office, and shipping supplies available for the warehouse office; providing excellent customer service when answering phones, taking messages, and helping customers with any problem they may be experiencing; completing shuttle orders and printing bills of lading for shuttles as needed; assisting with front office clerical operations as needed; assisting with month-end and year-end inventory process; contributing to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed; insuring fair, equitable, and respectful interactions with coworkers, vendors, and customers; and other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Language skills include the ability to read, analyze, and interpret common information, reports, and other documents; respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or company representatives; and effectively present information to management.

Physical demands include the ability to walk, stand for long periods of time, sit, talk or hear; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; sit for long periods of time, stand frequently, bend, squat, reach, and turn to access files and office equipment; and lift up to 50 pounds.

Work environment characteristics include exposure to various unfamiliar conditions where Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn and which may include manufacturing and warehouse plants, and other venues as directed by supervisor. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but increases significantly in warehouse and manufacturing plants.

Minimum qualifications include a high school/general education diploma or equivalent, some college strongly preferred; 1-3 years of general office or shipping/receiving experience, preferably in a manufacturing setting; ability and willingness to work a flexible full-time schedule that may include weekends and holidays; excellent communication skills and telephone etiquette; fluent in oral and written communication in English; strong computer skills, including Microsoft business applications and various reporting software; exceptional interpersonal communication skills; must be 18 years or older; pass physical and drug exam; and must be able to provide own transportation to various locations in organizational service areas, as required by duties.
