Description Examples of Duties Administration 15% Works with other Audiology faculty regarding a variety of primary administrative duties. These include but are not limited to: Clinic Policy and Procedures HIPPA Compliance Insurance Provider Compliance (i.e. Medicare/Medicaid) Infection Control Coding, billing, and reimbursement procedures Marketing Continuing education General advancement of clinical services within the School of Medicine and the Community Maintains working relationship with administrative professionals with regards to billing, reimbursement, coding, marketing, financial budgeting and professional development. Organizes and maintains administrative and patient files as necessary. Participates in Quality Assurance Program. Coordinates all work with other professionals including receptionists, secretaries, and other audiology personnel. Answers patient phone calls. Provides information regarding testing services and fees. Facilitates scheduling of appointments. Completes CPT and ICD-10 coding of charge tickets for audiology services. Completes assignments as requested by Department of Otolaryngology and other faculty. Collaborates in the development and advancement of new audiological clinical services and clinical research. Teaching 5% Supervises and provides didactic instruction for Au.D. interns. Delivers educational presentations to students, residents, and faculty. Collaborates in the education of students, residents and faculty on various assessment tools and types and utilization of intervention programs available for communication disorders. Acts as a role model in the teaching of audiology and related techniques. Research 5% Promotes clinical research and scholarly activity in the clinical audiology domain. Participates in clinical research activities with physicians, students and other audiologists upon approval of the clinical audiology faculty and the Chair, Department of Otolaryngology. Service 75% Administers a variety of clinical tests designed to assess the auditory system at various levels throughout the auditory system. Tests include pure tone and speech audiometry, tympanometry, acoustic reflex test battery, auditory evoked potential testing (ABR) in the clinic and the operating room, and otoacoustic emission testing. Administers a variety of vestibular and balance tests to assess the vestibular/balance function of patient with dizziness and balance disorders. Performs vestibular rehabilitation and particle repositioning maneuvers as therapy for patients as ordered by physicians. May perform cerumen management using sound judgment regarding the need for physician referral. Describes and documents the amount of social disability resulting from hearing loss and counsels patients regarding the potential benefits from the use of hearing aids and/or other assistive listening technology. Counsels hearing impaired patients and families about the effects of hearing loss. Provides information to improve communication strategies and models such strategies for patients. Performs hearing aid evaluations which includes assessment of communication handicap and the appropriateness of amplification on an individual basis. Dispenses hearing aids using current fitting techniques and rationales. Analyzes hearing aid performance utilizing real ear measures and electroacoustical analysis where appropriate. Educates patients regarding proper use and care of hearing devices. Counsels patients and works with patient to establish realistic goals and expectations with regards to the use of amplification. Completes follow-up appointments for hearing aid adjustments, aural rehabilitation counseling, and repairs. Maintains knowledge with respect to current amplification technology, fitting procedures, and prescriptive methods. Plans, directs, conducts, and/or participates in habilitative and rehabilitative programs for the hearing impaired and their families, including counseling, guidance, auditory training, and speech reading. The purpose of such duties is to facilitate the personal adjustment process to hearing impairment. Participates in community education to promote understanding of hearing loss and its consequences. Evaluates and documents the results of administered tests and appointments in a written report or chart note. Coordinates audiometric results with other diagnostic data, such as educational, medical, social, and behavioral information. Provides for and promotes the comfort and safety of patients receiving audiology services. Trouble shoots equipment problems and maintains good working order of equipment to minimize downtime. Orders hearing aid supplies and general supplies as necessary. Stocks rooms with necessary equipment and supplies. Participates in the daily maintenance of the clinic area in order to ensure comfort of patients and colleagues. Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Clinical Doctorate in Audiology from an Accredited College or University (and) Eligible to be licensed in the State of Illinois as an Audiologist (and) Required certification in ASHA CCC-A (and) Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.
