Overview Edgewater Federal Solutions is currently seeking an Information Specialist to support our federal customer in the Washington DC area.
The Information Specialist will support the Veteran Affairs Office of Inspector General (VA OIG) enterprise Records Management program by providing hands-on records review, analysis, identification, classification, lifecycle management, documentation, and operational support. The role will work with a large volume of electronic records across the VA OIG enterprise, including routine office records as well as potentially complex investigative, legal, technical, and case-related information. Information Specialists will support VA OIG efforts to modernize its Records Management program, strengthen enterprise records oversight, and ensure records are appropriately managed throughout their lifecycle in accordance with Government-approved policies, procedures, and records schedules. Information Specialists will support VA OIG efforts to modernize its Records Management program, strengthen enterprise records oversight, and ensure records are appropriately managed throughout their lifecycle in accordance with Government-approved policies, procedures, and records schedules. Responsibilities
- Perform detailed review and analysis of electronic records and documents across the VA OIG enterprise.
- Identify and categorize legacy records, including redundant, obsolete, and transitory records.
- Review records against applicable NARA-approved records schedules to support lifecycle and disposition determinations.
- Support documentation and tracking of approved records destruction and disposition activities.
- Assist with records identification, tracking, classification, inventory, and lifecycle management.
- Review and apply appropriate document and records markings, including CUI and other Government-defined designations.
- Identify records requiring additional review, protective handling, escalation, or formal evaluation and route them through appropriate Government-approved processes.
- Assist with the identification and labeling of essential records.
- Perform quality assurance reviews to ensure records are consistently and accurately analyzed, categorized, marked, and documented.
- Maintain detailed records of analysis activities and processing decisions in Government-approved systems and repositories.
- Support development and maintenance of records inventories, holdings information, lifecycle tracking, and associated reporting.
- Support implementation and refinement of Records Management policies, guidance, SOPs, workflows, and governance procedures.
- Identify gaps, inconsistencies, and opportunities for improvement encountered during records review and processing.
- Support business process analysis, gap analysis, workflow mapping, dependency identification, and documentation of current-state and future-state Records Management processes.
- Participate in stakeholder interviews, workshops, process walkthroughs, and requirements elicitation activities as required.
- Assist with development of performance metrics and analytics related to records processing, lifecycle management, schedule application, quality, and program performance.
- Support identification, documentation, tracking, and reporting of Records Management risks, issues, deficiencies, and remediation activities.
- Develop and maintain supporting documentation, including procedures, reference guides, job aids, briefing materials, status information, and other Records Management artifacts.
- Collaborate with VA OIG Records Management personnel, Government stakeholders, the Program Manager, Change & Communications Specialist, and other team members to support implementation and adoption of Records Management processes.
- Exercise discretion, professionalism, and sound judgment when handling sensitive Government information and competing priorities.
- Bachelor's degree in Information Management, Records Management, Library/Information Science, Business, Public Administration, Information Technology, or a related discipline preferred; relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirements.
- Experience supporting records management, information management, document management, data/information governance, library/information services, legal document review, eDiscovery, FOIA, compliance, case-file management, or a similar information-intensive environment preferred.
- Federal Government or other highly regulated environment experience preferred.
- Familiarity with NARA records management requirements, federal records schedules, electronic records lifecycle management, or federal information governance preferred.
- Strong reading comprehension and analytical skills, including the ability to review complex or lengthy records and make consistent determinations based on established guidance.
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to interpret and consistently apply policies, procedures, records schedules, marking requirements, and complex instructions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to clearly document analysis and processing decisions.
- Ability to work independently while operating effectively within a collaborative team environment and managing large volumes of information with accuracy and quality.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and adapt as Government priorities evolve.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn Government enterprise platforms and Records Management tools; experience with ServiceNow/Neurons, SharePoint, electronic records repositories, or document management systems is desirable.
- Must be able to successfully complete all VA OIG-required background investigation, suitability, credentialing, and onboarding requirements and appropriately handle sensitive Government information.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, keyboard, and standard office equipment
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds
- Fine hand manipulation (keyboarding)
- Exposure to general office conditions while conducting office duties
- Moderate noise (i.e., business office with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic)
- Ability to work in a confined area
- Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period
