Pharmacist

Under direction, performs professional pharmaceutical work. Responsible for preparing and dispensing medications and overseeing the work of Pharmacy Technicians.

Examples of the work include coordinating and overseeing the work of Pharmacy Technicians, preparing and dispensing medications by reviewing and interpreting prescriptions, counseling patients and answering questions regarding their medications, interacting with medical and nursing personnel regarding medications, dispensing FDA-approved methods of contraception, verifying the prescription preparation and labeling conducted by the Pharmacy Technicians, administering immunizations and other injectable medications, conducting patient health screenings, formulating clinical decisions regarding medication therapy based on current guidelines, and performing related work as required.

Minimum requirements include a Doctorate degree in Pharmacy or a Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy and four years of experience as a pharmacist in a community/retail pharmacy. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted, as determined applicable by Civil Service. Physical requirements include responding to patient and Family Health Centers needs via various means, lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 30 lbs, and spending extended periods of time standing, climbing, and reaching. Special requirements include possession of an active license in good standing to practice Pharmacy in the state of Kentucky, an immunization administration certification, a Naloxone certification, providing own transportation to work at other locations as needed, and being available to work extended hours as necessary.
