Job Summary:
Medical Surgical Floor Registered Nurse (RN) position located in an acute care setting. This role involves providing post-operative and general medical surgical patient care, with responsibilities including wound care, IV therapy, pain management, and monitoring vital signs. The position offers day shifts and requires a dedicated nurse with a team-oriented approach, critical thinking skills, and the ability to manage a diverse patient population.

Job Details:

• Schedule: 12-hour days shift, 36 hours minimum per week, starting on 10/12/2026 and ending on 01/11/2027.
• Required Qualifications: Valid active Illinois nursing license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA); minimum of 1 year of experience in medical-surgical nursing; to submit last four digits of clinician's Social Security Number, middle initial, and requested time off.
• Preferred Qualifications: Experience with post-operative care, critical thinking skills, good bedside manner, ability to ask for help when needed, and team player attitude.
• Duties: Provide care for post-op surgical, trauma, overflow medical patients; manage dressing changes, wound care, IV therapy, and pain management; monitor drains, NG tubes, central lines, and TPN; assist with vital signs, accu-checks, ADLs, patient turning, and ambulation.
• Department: Surgical Acute; Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: 4-5 patients per RN during days, 5-6 patients per RN during nights, with potential increases if absolutely needed.
• Additional Information: RNs may troubleshoot vents, Cpap, BiPAP, and high flow oxygen equipment; manage inhalers and assist with placements of patients on CPAP. Telemetry monitoring is available; RNs are responsible for reading monitors with a central station serving telemetry techs.
• Shifts & Scheduling: 0700-1930 for days and 1930-0730 for nights, with consideration for block scheduling (must be approved at the time of contract). Every other weekend and holiday rotation are required. Travelers are first to float if needed, floating to units with the same level of experience; float to a general unit from an ICU involves managing three patients.
• Dress Code: Any color scrubs; scrubs provided.
• Orientation: Two shifts with preceptor, plus one 12-hour shift for EPIC and professional orientation with the unit educator.
• Certifications: BLS (AHA).
• Experience: Minimum of 1 year of general nursing experience required.
