Principal Electrical Engineer

Job Duties

As a Principal Electrical Engineer, you will serve as a technical leader within Released Product Engineering (RPE), supporting a portfolio of medical devices throughout their lifecycle. You will lead complex electrical engineering activities including sustaining engineering, product enhancements, quality investigations, compliance, cost optimization, supplier changes, and obsolescence management. This role requires deep expertise in mixed-signal electronics, system integration, and regulated product development, along with the ability to collaborate across engineering, quality, regulatory, manufacturing, and operations teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the electrical engineering subject matter expert for sustaining engineering, product enhancements, quality, and compliance initiatives.

• Lead the design, integration, verification, validation, and troubleshooting of mixed-signal electrical systems for medical devices.

• Define hardware architectures and technical solutions that balance performance, reliability, manufacturability, compliance, and cost.

• Support released products through engineering changes, supplier transitions, obsolescence management, lifecycle planning, and VAVE initiatives.

• Lead root cause investigations, CAPAs, complaint assessments, and nonconformance resolutions.

• Ensure compliance with applicable standards and regulations, including IEC 60601, FDA Quality System Regulations, and ISO 13485.

• Develop technical specifications, test plans, and engineering documentation.

• Partner with cross-functional teams including Systems, Software, Firmware, Mechanical, Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain.

• Mentor engineers, lead technical reviews, and help drive engineering best practices and continuous improvement.

Minimum Education Required

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with 7+ years of experience, or Master's degree with 5+ years of experience.

Minimum Experience Required

Required Qualifications

• Experience with mixed-signal hardware design, including architecture, circuit design, schematic capture, PCB layout, component selection, and verification testing.

• Strong knowledge of analog/digital circuits, power electronics, system integration, and root cause analysis.

• Experience with OrCAD and standard laboratory test equipment.

• Experience designing and troubleshooting high-voltage systems (up to ~5 kV).

• Experience in regulated industries, preferably medical devices.

• Knowledge of IEC 60601 standards and medical device development processes.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting released medical products.

• EMC and electrical safety testing experience.

• Supplier qualification, component obsolescence, and VAVE experience.

• Exposure to systems engineering and Agile development.

• Lean, Six Sigma, or structured problem-solving methodologies.

• Experience influencing technical decisions across cross-functional organizations.
