We're looking for an innovative and strategic Director of Community Resources to lead the expansion of one of the most exciting initiatives within our organization. This newly created leadership role offers the opportunity to build and scale community resource programs that connect individuals and families with housing, healthcare, employment, childcare, financial assistance, and other critical support services.

About San Diego Food Bank

The San Diego Food Bank is the largest hunger-relief organization in San Diego County, serving hundreds of thousands of individuals every month through an extensive network of community partners, distribution programs, and innovative services.

As the organization continues to evolve, the Food Bank is investing in programs that go beyond emergency food assistance by connecting clients with resources that improve long-term stability and quality of life. This position will play a critical role in that vision.

You'll develop and execute the long-term strategy for Community Resources, expanding partnerships with healthcare systems, housing organizations, workforce development agencies, educational institutions, and other community organizations that help individuals and families thrive.

Rather than inheriting a mature department, you'll evaluate existing services, identify opportunities for growth, and create a roadmap that expands community impact across San Diego County. The hiring managers emphasized that this is a growing initiative with tremendous opportunity for innovation-not a broken program that needs fixing.

What You'll Do

• Develop and execute the strategic vision for Community Resources across San Diego County
• Expand partnerships with housing providers, healthcare organizations, educational institutions, workforce development agencies, and other community organizations
• Evaluate current programs and identify opportunities to expand wraparound services for clients
• Lead the continued growth of Client Choice Pantry operations and integrated resource navigation services
• Build sustainable referral networks that improve long-term client outcomes
• Use client feedback, community data, and emerging trends to guide strategic decision-making
• Represent the San Diego Food Bank with executive leaders, public agencies, nonprofit organizations, and community stakeholders
• Develop operational processes, performance metrics, and scalable program infrastructure
• Build, mentor, and lead high-performing, multi-site teams as the program expands
• Foster a collaborative, client-centered culture focused on dignity, innovation, and measurable impact

What Success Looks Like

Within your first several months, you'll:

• Evaluate the current state of Client Choice Pantries and Community Resource programs
• Understand the needs of the populations we serve
• Assess existing community partnerships and identify opportunities for expansion
• Develop a strategic roadmap for future program growth
• Begin cultivating relationships with best-in-class organizations throughout San Diego County
• Lay the foundation for a scalable model that can expand across multiple locations

What You'll Bring

Required Qualifications

• Leadership experience within nonprofit organizations, public agencies, healthcare, housing, or human services
• Deep understanding of San Diego County's social services landscape
• Experience developing strategic partnerships across multiple organizations
• Strong strategic planning and program development experience
• Experience leading cross-functional or multi-site teams
• Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills
• Experience serving vulnerable populations through community-based programs
• Ability to collaborate effectively with executive leadership, community partners, and public agencies

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with housing, healthcare, workforce development, behavioral health, or community resource navigation
• Familiarity with coordinated referral systems such as 211 or Community Information Exchange (CIE)
• Budget management and program evaluation experience
• Grant reporting experience
• Experience supervising case management or resource navigation teams

The hiring team shared that nonprofit experience is important, but candidates from city, county, healthcare, or public-sector organizations with strong nonprofit partnerships are also excellent fits. Prior food bank experience is not required; experience supporting vulnerable populations and navigating complex community systems is far more important.
