Blood Extraction Expert 4911

This is a temporary job position.

Location: Nashville, TN

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Expected duration: 3 months

Overview:

The fundamental role of a blood extraction specialist is to support with executing various assigned responsibilities, problem-solving, training, and making recommendations for work improvement.

Responsibilities:

Handling specimens

Performing blood extractions, tagging specimens, centrifuging samples, documenting maintenance information and decontamination, updating patient records, etc.

Gathering and storing specimens following established protocols. Clearly explaining the process of venipuncture (blood drawing) and/or other specimen collection (e.g. urine or fecal) as needed

Demonstrating techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles

Understanding all physician orders. Matching lab requisition forms to specimen tubes. Labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing specimens based on test orders.

Verifying all test requisitions or computer labels against script to ensure accuracy

Packaging specimens for transportation

Storing specimen samples at the required temperature, placing samples in suitable collection container/tube, correctly labeling, adhering to different procedures as outlined by protocol for transport to maintain specimen integrity. Complying with OSHA and DEP regulations

Attending annual departmental trainings

Responding to phone calls, reading lab results to address inquiries

Minimum Requirements:

Valid phlebotomy certification for the state of employment as required in certain states

At least 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or GED

Minimum 2 years of experience
