Chemical / Wastewater OperatorThe Chemical Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of wastewater treatment systems and related chemical processes within an industrial facility. This role focuses on monitoring, adjusting, and maintaining equipment to ensure wastewater is treated effectively and in compliance with environmental regulations. The operator conducts sampling and testing, manages chemical mixing and batch processes, and keeps accurate records to support optimal plant performance and regulatory compliance.ResponsibilitiesMonitor and control the operation of wastewater treatment systems, including pumps, valves, aerators, and other mechanical equipment, to ensure continuous and efficient plant performance.Operate, adjust, and maintain chemical processing equipment used for mixing, compounding, blending, and batch making in support of wastewater treatment and related processes.Use SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems to observe plant performance, identify trends, and make necessary process adjustments to maintain compliance and system stability.Analyze test results and system data to verify compliance with environmental regulations and internal standards, and promptly report any abnormalities, potential violations, or process upsets.Maintain accurate, timely, and organized records of plant operations, sampling results, equipment readings, maintenance activities, and regulatory compliance documentation.Prepare and submit required operational and compliance reports in accordance with regulatory and internal reporting requirements.Follow established safety protocols and procedures at all times, including the proper handling of chemicals and operation of mechanical equipment, to ensure a safe work environment.Participate in safety training, actively identify potential safety hazards, and report or escalate concerns to support continuous improvement in workplace safety.Collaborate with team members and other departments to coordinate plant operations, share information, and resolve operational or equipment issues.Perform routine inspections of equipment and systems to identify wear, malfunctions, or needed adjustments, and assist with basic maintenance tasks as directed.Use computer systems and software to enter operational data, track performance metrics, and support reporting and communication needs.Support continuous improvement initiatives by suggesting process enhancements, contributing to problem-solving efforts, and helping implement best practices in wastewater and chemical operations.Essential SkillsHands-on experience with chemical operations such as mixing, compounding, blending, batch making, and chemical manufacturing in an industrial or plant environment.Knowledge of wastewater operation and water treatment principles, including flow control, pump operation, and process monitoring.Ability to operate and monitor pumps, valves, aerators, and related mechanical equipment to control flow and treatment processes.Proficiency in performing laboratory or field tests such as titration and pH measurements using pH probes and other analytical tools.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret data, diagnose operational issues, and make sound decisions to optimize plant performance.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also collaborating effectively as part of a team in a plant environment.Effective verbal and written communication skills for documenting operations, reporting findings, and coordinating with colleagues.Proficiency in using computer systems and software to operate SCADA systems, record data, and prepare reports.Additional Skills & QualificationsPrevious experience in chemical operations is preferred and beneficial.Experience with SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems for monitoring and controlling industrial processes.Strong attention to detail and accuracy when collecting samples, performing tests, and maintaining operational records.Ability to adapt to changing operational conditions and respond quickly to process upsets or equipment issues.Comfort working in an industrial setting with mechanical and chemical processes, following strict safety protocols.Willingness to participate in ongoing training and skill development related to wastewater operations, chemical handling, and safety.Why Work Here?This opportunity offers the chance to join a growing organization with a long-term outlook and multiple operational sites, providing meaningful stability and room for professional development. Work is performed in and around wastewater treatment and chemical handling areas, requiring adherence to strict safety protocols and the use of appropriate personal protective equipment. The environment is hands-on, with regular movement throughout the plant to monitor systems, collect samples, and perform inspections. Employees should be comfortable working in an industrial setting that may involve varying temperatures, noise from operating equipment, and the physical demands of standing, walking, and performing routine equipment checks.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rome, GA.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $26.00 - $30.00/hr.
