Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Montgomery, AL

Facility Overview: This facility is a 492-bed hospital featuring a Level I Trauma Center, Level III NICU, and Primary Stroke Center.

Job Responsibilities: Registered Nurses will be assigned to a home unit and are expected to deliver high-quality patient care while adhering to predefined patient ratios. Responsibilities include:

• Providing comprehensive patient care, including assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), bathing, and turning patients.
• Monitoring patient conditions and reporting significant changes to the healthcare team.
• Administering medications and treatments as prescribed, including IV medications.
• Performing wound care and managing drains, chest tubes, and other medical devices.
• Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient care plans.
• Maintaining accurate documentation in the electronic medical record system (Cerner or EPIC).

Unit Information:

• 6 North Trauma Surgical: 23 beds focusing on general surgery and vascular surgeries. Required skills include trauma/surgical experience, wound care, and chest tube management.
• 5 South Neuroscience: 33 beds caring for patients with CVA, TBI, seizure disorders, and post-trauma. Skills include IV starts, trach care, and wound care.
• 5 North MedSurg/Oncology: 39 beds with a preference for chemo experience. Skills required include administering chemotherapy, trach care, and wound care.
• 3 South Orthopedic: 20 beds focused on orthopedic and spine surgeries. Skills include managing PCA pumps and wound care.
• 3 North MS/Ortho/Urology: 23 beds handling urology and orthopedic patients. Skills required include wound care and IV management.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 18 months of experience in MedSurg and/or ICU.
• EPIC or Cerner electronic medical record experience required; Cerner experience is mandatory for strictly ICU experience.
• Required certifications: BLS and NIHSS.
• Telemetry experience is preferred; RNs are expected to interpret telemetry strips every four hours.

Patient Care and Support:

• CNA ratio: 1 CNA for every 10-12 patients, assisting with vital signs, ADLs, and glucose checks when available.
• Support staff includes receptionists, phlebotomists, and a dedicated IV team.
• Each unit has designated charge nurses who may not have patient assignments.

Work Schedule:

• Weekends: Every other weekend or four weekend days per month.
• Holiday expectations: One major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy.
• Shift times: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. or 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
• Orientation: New travelers will complete 24 hours of classroom training and 24 hours on the unit.

• Expected attire is any color scrubs.
• Parking is available in a free parking deck on the second to fourth levels.
