About The Team

Join a small but mighty team who advises on all aspects of operations of a tech company tightly associated with a law firm. You'll be the second lawyer working directly with the General Counsel to define this legal function from the ground up. This unique environment combines the fast pace of a well‑funded technology business with the complexity of regulated legal practice and a novel ownership structure, creating one of the more interesting in‑house roles you'll find.

What We're Looking For

J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction. 4–7 years of combined law firm and/or in‑house experience, with a strong transactional/commercial core. Excellent contract drafting and redlining skills, and sound, business‑minded judgment on ambiguous questions. A generalist's range and a startup operator's temperament: organized, low‑ego, fast, and comfortable owning matters end‑to‑end with limited supervision. Prefer experience with start‑ups, technology or legal technology, or professional‑services regulation, exposure to immigration practice or immigration‑adjacent businesses, and privacy / data protection experience is helpful.

What You’ll Do

As Assistant General Counsel, you’ll work directly under the General Counsel as the legal team's first hands‑on generalist, owning meaningful workstreams across both entities. This is a build role, not a maintenance role: you’ll take real volume off the GC's plate, stand up repeatable processes and templates, and grow into broader ownership as the company scales. The intersection of regulated legal practice, a fast‑moving technology business, and a novel ownership structure makes this one of the more interesting in‑house legal environments you'll find. You’ll be the second lawyer in a function you’ll help define, working directly with the GC at a well‑funded company doing something genuinely novel in the legal industry.

You should be comfortable moving quickly, exercising independent judgment, and operating across corporate, commercial, employment, privacy, regulatory, and legal‑ethics matters in the same week. The work is broad, the pace is real, and the surface area for ownership and growth is large.

Not For You If

This role isn't for you if you thrive in large, highly structured organizations with established processes and clear hierarchies. You'll be building systems from scratch rather than following well‑documented procedures, working in a small team environment where you'll need to figure things out as you go. If you prefer having layers of review, specialized roles, or the security of proven institutional frameworks, the entrepreneurial nature of defining a legal function at the intersection of a tech company and law firm will likely feel too ambiguous and fast‑moving for your working style.
