Engineering Technician

Overview The City of Bothell is hiring an Engineering Technician to support Public Works projects, including transportation, the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), and construction. This role assists with design, GIS/AutoCAD work, cost estimates, field data collection, and project documentation to support the delivery of civil engineering projects. Recruitment information: The first round of applications will be reviewed on Monday, June 8, 2026. Default schedule will be the following: 5/8s or 9/80s. This position will be fully onsite for the first six months, after which eligibility for a hybrid work schedule may be considered. Responsibilities Provide technical support to Public Works engineering programs, including transportation planning, the CIP, and construction projects; perform duties within the scope of authority, training, and area of responsibility, with duties varying by assignment. Assist engineering staff in preparing designs, graphics, specifications, cost estimates, and technical documentation for Public Works projects. Conduct research, analysis, and reviews of plans, reports, specifications, proposals, and estimates to support project development and ensure quality standards are met. Support planning, design, coordination, and inspection of CIP, transportation, utility, and other civil engineering projects; exchange technical information with regional agencies, businesses, and external partners. Assist in developing technical drawings, maps, and GIS data using established GIS and AutoCAD systems; collect, verify, and perform quality control on spatial data. Participate in field data collection activities, including traffic studies and site inspections, to verify conditions and ensure compliance with City standards. Specific projects include: Citizen Action Request Investigations (CARS), Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), Traffic Signal System Operations, Traffic Data Collection, Streetlight Management Program, Pavement Marking Striping, Signing and Channelization, Asset Replacement Management Program, Traffic Calming Program, School Flashing Beacon Program, Guardrail Program, Parking Permits Program, and assists with special projects as needed.
