POSITION OVERVIEW

The Newark Board of Education invites qualified and interested persons to apply for the position of Teacher of Bilingual Education. This role enables educators to provide a balanced, inclusive curriculum and support students across diverse linguistic backgrounds.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (preferred), unless otherwise specified by the New Jersey Department of Education.

BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Plans a program of study that meets individual needs, interests, and abilities of students. Evaluates student progress regularly and prepares progress reports. Instructs pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the curriculum as specified in state law and district regulations. Provides individual, small-group, and/or large-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to varying intellectual and special abilities. Instructs pupils in proper care and use of textbooks, equipment, and materials. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to provide an orderly and productive environment. Selects and requisitions instructional materials, equipment, and maintains required inventory records. Develops instructional plans and organizes class time for a balanced program. Develops and maintains professional competence through in-service education and self-directed growth activities. Supervises out-of-classroom activities for pupils during the assigned working day. Plans and coordinates the work of aides, teacher assistants, and other paraprofessionals. Identifies pupil needs and collaborates with professional staff to address learning challenges. Communicates with parents and personnel staff about pupil progress and development. Maintains attendance accounting and business services as required. Participates in student activities and faculty committees. Serves as a resource to integrate the subject area across departments. Maintains open communication lines with students and parents regarding academic and behavioral progress. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Salary: $67,000–$111,625 (SY 25–26) Employment Period: Ten (10) months Union Affiliation: Newark Teacher’s Union (NTU)
